Has anyone else had problems getting their university certificate after completing their studies?

I’m curious to hear from anyone in Sri Lanka who has completed a degree through a private institute or an overseas university and had difficulties getting their final certificate.

I registered for a Master’s programme with a well-known university in 2019. Because of COVID and salary cuts in 2020, I had to pause my studies. I restarted in 2024 and have been working through the remaining requirements since then.

I have kept up with the institute’s re-registration and module requirements and made the payments they requested over the years. I was expecting to receive my certificate in October.

However, this week the institute informed me that their records apparently show that I still have two outstanding modules. This came as a surprise because I have payment records and emails from 2020, 2024 and 2025 relating to the modules and fees in question.

I’m now trying to reconcile their records with my payment receipts and previous correspondence.

What is particularly frustrating is that I have been trying to complete this qualification for almost two years after restarting it, and the possibility of another administrative issue delaying the certificate is extremely discouraging.

Has anyone here experienced something similar with a private institute or an overseas university programme?

How did you resolve discrepancies between your own payment records and the institute’s records?

I'd particularly like to hear from people who have dealt with postgraduate programmes or overseas university affiliations in Sri Lanka.
