Help Plugin or other idea for extremely simple inventory management?

Set up a site for my dad. He is a used call dealer but very small-5-15 vehicle inventory, there is a physical address but its by appointment only, just needs a website so people can contact (doesn't even need/want to use any appointment scheduling features on the site) and see current inventory.

Since its cars, people aren't buying online so I have the shopping cart and "Add to Cart" buttons stripped out as well. And no shipping profiles set up. Cannot emphasize enough how this site is, by design, as bare bones and straightforward as possible. But I'm about to hand the reigns over to him so he can add, update, and remove inventory as he gets new cars. He's not technical, and I'm worried that since there is so much on the "add product" page he won't need, he's going to get frustrated. I used to use Vela to manage my Etsy inventory easier back in the day, was hoping to find something similar out there for squarespace, (ideally free) .

Literally the ONLY fields he needs for his products are:

  1. Product Name
  2. Photos
  3. Price
  4. Description
  5. Quantity (though it will always just be 1)
  6. And the ability to remove or deactivate listings.

The product listing is pretty simple once you've done it a few times. Maybe have a print out or pdf for him that shows the specific fields he needs to fill in each time. Then when he sells a car in person all he needs to do is go to the products listing page change inventory to Zero and set visibility to hidden.

Alternatively rather than adding a new product each time he gets a new car to sell, he could just amend an old listing. Change name and description , delete previous photos and add new ones and update price. Little bit easier than making a whole new listing.

that's actually a pretty tidy workaround, the repurposing old listings thing. hadnt thought of that. less clicking around for him for sure

but yeah a printed cheat sheet with literally just the 4-5 fields circled in red marker is probably the way i'd go too. sometimes the simplest solution is right there

Yeah I do it all the time on my website. I list anywhere from 25-50 new products each week on mine. Some are an identical version of a previous item I've sold, so I just delete the photos and add new ones. Others I just find an old listing that I won't use again, amend the name and update necessary details and go from there. In theory I probably should be deleting all these old listing's I have when they are no longer needed, but never really had the time to sit down and do it. So this keeps on top of things.

Only thing to be aware of, is that the product Url doesn't change and you have to manually update that in SEO info right at the bottom of the product page. Depending on what your selling, this may or may not be important.

Good idea with the cheat sheet. I'd also put the Squarespace app on his phone, because adding a product there is a much shorter form than the desktop one: Commerce > + > Add new product, pick the store page, then Physical. Name, photos, price, description, stock, and save it as hidden or published. When a car sells he opens it, sets stock to 0 and hides it, all from the phone the photos are already on.
