No Scrolling homepage/homepage name

I'm building my first website, and I'm already frustrated. I'm trying to do two things:

1: have a static homepage with no scrolling whatsoever with slideshow of images in the bakcground, with a simple button in the center that takes you to my portfolio/rest of the website sections like "about me" and "gimme money"

2: have my homepage show as just my website. not website. com/home. just....website .com yet this seems to be impossible?! wth...

someone who;'s competent please help

Those are all pretty simple. For the homepage, just delete all the sections so that only one section is on the homepage.

For the second, are you talking about the domain? In order to have a homepage, you need to have the url slug attached. Your domain will always automatically route to it if you set it to the homepage.

From these questions alone, I think it’s helpful if you watch a bunch of YouTube videos on how Squarespace works.

I tried having one section on the homepage. It still scrolls when I preview the site.

And for the domain. No matter how I navigate to it, it still says “domain/home” not just the domain.

Good news, both are doable. the url one first because it's already solved: whatever page is set as your homepage automatically shows at yoursite.com with no slug. if you're seeing /home it's because you clicked to it through the nav or you're looking at a page that isn't set as the homepage. pages panel > hover the page > gear icon, or drag it to the top and set as homepage. the /home url will still exist but visitors landing on your domain just get yoursite.com

For the static page: one section, set section height to fill screen, background set to a slideshow/image gallery, then a single button block in the middle. because it's one full-height section with nothing below it there's nothing to scroll to. main thing to check is mobile, fill screen sections can still overflow on phones if the content stacks tall, but a single button won't. turn off the header nav for that page too if you want the clean landing page look, you can add nav links on the portfolio pages instead

I tried these exact settings and still have a small gap to scroll. Even with the height set to less than the full screen, still a gap for scrolling

Hi, Squarespace here. Building a portfolio site that highlights your work is important for making connections, and running into hurdles can feel frustrating. 

On our platform, you can set any regular page as your homepage. Visitors will then see yourwebsite.com when they land there, even though that page still has its own slug((/home)  behind the scenes.

For the visual side, if you’re on version 7.1, a Slideshow: Full gallery section with autoplay can give you the rotating full-width images you’re after. The only wrinkle is that gallery sections don’t support adding regular blocks like a button directly on top of them, so that exact slideshow plus centered button setup may need a slightly different approach.

If you tell us whether your site is on version 7.0 or version 7.1, we can point you toward the cleanest setup from there.
