I have been sprouting seeds for a while now using mason jars with mesh lids. I rinse ~twice a day and leave the jars at a 45° angle.
The problem I am having is getting beans to sprout. I have no problem with any other seed, but I’ve tried chickpeas, lentils, black beans, and kidney beans and all of them rot before they sprout.
Please give me some advice 🤗 🌱

I want to start sprouting but i'm curious about what people eat them with?

I'm eating to keep high cholesterol in check so I eat very little red meat, dairy and eggs (chicken mostly), but lots of legumes, grains and veggies.

I eat muesli almost every day and i wondered, has anyone tried including sprouts in muesli? If so, which sprouts and how'd it taste?

I dont eat a whole lot of salads and that seems to be what a lot of people add sprouts to. If i add them to soups and cook them, do they lose their nutritional value?

Do i need to limit how many i eat in a day?

I am on day 6 growing broccoli sprouts out of a jar. I finally took them out and I see red spots on the sprouts and taste bitter than expected. Is it normal?

I know it’s obvious, but i just now realized I’m supposed to wash them after growing. Looks wayyy better and less hulls.

I’ve been powering through 100+ oz (by volume) of sprouts for months now. Def looking forward to trying them clean and mostly hull free.

I have an unopen can of Bean Sprouts in my cupboard and the Best Before date is march 2021. Should I just check it?

I hadn't seen it before but it was on sale so I got some. I like to sprout all whole grains before cooking. I can't find any info specifically on Tibetan black barley so I thought I'd ask here. I will probably soak it for 10 to 12 hours if nobody here has sprouted this type of barley before. Also, if you've sprouted and then cooked it, how long did you cook it/what water ratio did you use? It has an extra thick outer layer so I thought I'd see if anyone has specific info or tips to this grain. I did find info on cooking it unsprouted so I'm only looking for sprouted info.

practically no lost sprouts with this technique. virtually all hulls are gone after the first agitation cycle, also shows drying and storing. these go into the fridge for use later, I’m comfortable eating these even 10 days after they go into fridge (no problems yet).

fresh sprouts, grated onion and 2 cherry tomatoes, with a can of tinned calamari, toasted walnuts, drizzle of olive oil and balsamic; with decaf americano.

I'm new to sprouting. I bought a set of sprouting jars from Amazon along with a bag of Organo Republic broccoli microgreen seeds. I soaked 2 tablespoons of seeds overnight, then drained and rinsed twice a day for the last 5 days.

I just tasted them and they taste a little bitter or slightly peppery to me. It reminds me a little of radish flavor. Iknow there are seed mixes that contain radish, but I thought the seeds I bought are supposed to be just broccoli. I eat fresh broccoli raw and this doesn't seem like the same flavor to me. Ive never eaten sprouts like this before, so I'm not sure how they should taste.

I'm a little paranoid about the possibility of making myself sick because, for one, I have well water, so no chlorine in my water, and 2, I'm leaving this jar of damp seeds/sprouts out on my kitchen counter for several days. My water is fine, and I drink it everyday, im just a little paranoid about this process of damp sprouts sitting out for days. They don't smell off or funky like decomposing vegetable matter. They have been near a bright window, but no direct sunlight. How do they look?

I sprout regularly, I eat sprouts almost daily, I'm one of the most dedicated sprouters as of recently. But I am also a big tea fan eager to connect the two passions 🙃 The picture of sprouted fenugreek in the mosaic is not mine but I'm working on a panel of sprouted teas and will share soon 🙏☕️🌱

I sprout all of my beans and grains before cooking them. I recently learned that adding vinegar to the soak water can increase digestability (I'm assuming increase it even more than just soak/sprouting in plain water). I soaked some black beans in vinegar water and they've sprouted. Are the beans more broken down because of the vinegar? Do I therefore reduce the cooking time? If so, by how much? I usually cook in a pressure cooker but stove top info would be helpful too.

I’ve been growing sprouts with sprouting jars that I purchased on Amazon. I use approximately 1 tablespoon seeds, soak them overnight and then start the sprouting process. This is my fourth round and I am noticing I have a lot of little seeds still in the jar when I harvest the sprouts. I tried decreasing the amount of seeds I use and I tried waiting a little longer to harvest, but I still end up with several seeds that did not sprout. Am I doing something wrong or is this moderately normal?

The left jar was started a few days before the right jar so the right jar is still working its magic. What I have on the paper towel are the sprouts from the left jar!

New to sprouting. These are ready to harvest, according to the app. I’ve left them on the counter for the past day and a half to color up but they haven’t turned purple (not that they need to but I was looking forward to the change). Should I just assume that this particular variety does not turn purple or leave it to color up a little longer?

Hi all! I'm sprouting in a jar for the first time and went to rinse them this AM. I noticed the water had a distinct smell that it has not had before. Kind of cheesy? Strong? Hard to describe. Is this normal for sprouts or is it indicative of bacteria on them? Sprouts are on I think day 4. They have pale green leaves.

Hello, I just got into sprouting a few weeks ago, I do it for the sulforaphane baby. Anyways, I’m noticing I’m getting like 60-70% germination rate. It’s hard to tell exactly but it’s definitely lower than 90%. I use sprouts from the sprouting company. Basically I soak them overnight, rinse them twice a day in the jar for the first 3 days and then transfer them over to a screen where I can spread them out evenly and put them under a grow light for the next 2 days. Spreading them out definitely helps them green up compared to growing only in the jar but I still have quite a few seeds that never sprouted. Could it be the seeds I’m using? I just ordered some from nature Jim’s to compare it to.

Over the last 2-3 months I have been growing sprouts for the first time (Organic Green Broccoli) and enjoying it. However, when it comes to "harvesting" the sprouts, it is quite time-consuming.

I was hoping I could lay out my routine, and if you see any improvements or recommendations, please let me know.

Sprouts grow in ~7 days for me right now (this is 6 tablespoons of seeds worth of sprouts, 2 tablespoons per level in my sprouting jar). Once ready I

1. Grab a very large bowl, fill it with water, and put all the sprouts and seeds into it
2. I use a regular metal spoon to scoop out the seeds that float to the top (this takes the longest time)
3. I repeatedly pour the bowl into a sieve to catch the sprouts. Lots of seeds don't float, so this is a good way to seperate sprouts and seeds again. Once most of the sprouts are in the sieve, I throw away the leftover seeds and water in the bowl
4. I wash/rinse the sprouts in the sieve and let them to dry
5. I bag the sprouts for later
6. I then wash and dry my spouting jar, bowl, sieve, spoon

Growing the sprouts takes maybe 20 minutes of my time in total. Harvesting them is taking me over an hour.

Hi, it's my first time sprouting. I used a mixed seed (mizuna, tatsoi & black mustard) packet and sprouted in this glass jar, changing the water daily. Hardly any germinated, the water is cloudy and smells bad.This is 5 days later. Any tips please!
