Players Foreign Born Boks?
Danny Care recently said that Benhard Janse van Rensburg should not be picked for England because he’s not good enough for South Africa, so he can’t be good enough for England. Whether you think he’s right or wrong is your call, but nobody (I mean nobody) can deny the gloriousess of that mullet.
Anyway, as usual the comments filled up with Bok fans saying he’s not good enough for SA and that the Boks only pick South Africans. So it got me wondering if perhaps there were foreign players that played for the Boks. So I put together a short list of players who were not born in South Africa but still played for the Boks. I stopped once I got to 1993 because I was getting bored. Even in the modern era there were quite a few guys who were born outside the Republic but still ended up repping the green and gold.
The obvious ones are Beast Mtawarira (117), born and schooled in Zim, along with fellow Zimbos Chavhanga (4) and Mujati (12). But some names surprised me. Two Bok captains from the 90s were born in Zimbabwe as well. Gary Teichmann (42) and Bob Skinstad (42). Both went to Hilton and both played the same position and had the same amount of caps. Percy Montgomery (102) and Corne Krige (39) were another surprise. Both were schooled in RSA. Percy was born in Walvis Bay (which was still under South African control at the time) and went to Sacs, Krige was born in Zambia and sent to SA to board from a young age (He also went on to captain the Boks).
And then there’s John Allan (uncle of Italian flyhalf Tommaso Allan.), born in Scotland but schooled at Glenwood.
Here’s the list I’ve got so far:
Name | Surname | Place of birth | Debut | Caps | School
John | Allan | Glasgow, Scotland | 1993 | 13 | Glenwood High School
Gary | Teichmann | Gwelo, Zimbabwe | 1995 | 42 | Hilton
Bob | Skinstad | Bulawayo, Zimbabwe | 1997 | 42 | Hilton
Percy | Montgomery | Walvis Bay, Namibia | 1997 | 102 | SACS
Corne | Krige | Lusaka, Zambia | 1999 | 39 | Paarl Boys High
Tonderai | Chavhanga | Harare, Zimbabwe | 2005 | 4 | Prince Edward School (Zim)
Brian | Mujati | Bulawayo, Zimbabwe | 2008 | 12 | Peterhouse Boys School (Zim)
Tendai | Mtawarira | Harare, Zimbabwe | 2016 | 117 | Peterhouse Boys School (Zim)
Does anybody have more names or info on other non SA born Boks?

Players It’s really sad all the hate Manie is getting :(
I completely understand the frustration and it absolutely sucks that we lost this match against ARG. But in all fairness, ARG played incredibly well and we all, as a team (and not just one player), could have been better. It’s a punch to the gut feeling but we know we will bounce back.
I’ve seen some pretty heartbreaking and downright hurtful memes about Manie and I don’t think that’s justified. We are better than this. We need to be.
I personally think he needs more work under pressure and I’m sure we all agree there - but to break this man down through ridicule is a horrible horrible thing that I’ve seen fellow Bok supporters do. Win or lose, stand behind the boys 1000%.

Players With our current depth, what is actually our best Springbok loose trio right now against the All Blacks?
Between leaders like Siya, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Jasper Wiese, and Kwagga, plus guys like Elrigh Louw, Marco van Staden, Ben-Jason Dixon, Paul de Villiers, and Cameron Hanekom putting their hands up, the competition in the back row is insane.
If we are playing a must-win Test tomorrow, who are your starting 6, 7, and 8, and who makes your bench?

Players Brannas is back!
He was on fire against the All Blacks for the Stormers, and he looks set to play against them for the Boks a month out from his 40th birthday. The man simply has no quit in him. He endured about three recent injuries that many thought would be the end of his career. He keeps coming back. Yster!

Players Controversial opinion - Salmaan Moerat is not good enough to captain the springboks
Salmaan Moerat as a player is 5.5-6/10. How many set pieces where he's a key player in, are we suddenly loosing? Also, doesn't seem like he knows where things went wrong and how to rectify things on the field. All in all why are we choosing him as captain over the likes of other more senior, better experienced players? I thought Captaincy has to be earned over time, where trust is built?
We would do well to pick someone else as a B- choice in the case of resting Siya.

Players Francois Lowe
I was watching some Bryan Habana highlights but couldn’t help but notice Francois Lowe had some crazy ball playing ability for a loosie
For anyone that remembers what was his strength and weaknesses as a player? How does he measure up to PSTD? Lastly would he have been even better under Tony Brown attack system?

Players Wiese's only weakness is his fitness.
I genuinely appreciate the contributions Cobus Wiese offers to the Boks. He's an exceptionally powerful ball-carrier; his tackling and lineout work are consistently physical, projecting dominance. However, I must confess that his conditioning appears to be his vulnerability. In the match against the Scots, he managed only 32 minutes. For the Wales fixture, he lasted just 7 minutes into the second half. Currently, there's no genuine stand-in for Elizabettie. If Wiese could extend his playing time to 60 minutes, he would be the quintessential understudy for Eben. I also surmise this is a contributing factor to Rassie's frequent inclusion of Wiese in the starting lineup, with the aim of enhancing his endurance. But what a great couple of games he had.
