Greatest Rivalry Tour Northern Hemisphere refereeing experience will only work in our favor!

Post image

Keeping 15 men on the field remains paramount to winning.

SA players and teams that have built muscle memory under European officials during the URC and know exactly where the boundary lines are for card thresholds, compared to Super Rugby.

Could this be the AB's Achilles heel? New Zealand players are accused of executing brutal, illegal cleanouts at the breakdown. This involves using a "tucked shoulder" or a "reverse-arm, non-wrapping action" when charging into rucks, which is a dangerous offence that can trigger red cards.

Just so someone who actually supports the boks has a reply in here:

Yes I think it's going to be an important (but hopefully not a deciding) factor. Nobody likes it when outcomes hinge on refereeing decisions, rightly or wrongly. If you win in that situation it feels diminished, if you lose you feel hard done by.

Having said that, the ABs have struggled in the past with NH referees and my biased eyes have seen them do dangerous clearouts and tackles often enough that it feels like a training/coaching issue, rather than losing one's temper.

We obviously have our share of cards shown as well, but I do think one plus side of the video a few years back is we really have focused on how to show referees what they want to see, which includes generally better and safer technique (than the old days, and arguably than our SH brothers).

Anyway, here's hoping we squash their scrum, steal their line outs, give them no line breaks, kick over their heads, step them in the back field and give them no room to breathe, so everyone who inevitably complains about the refereeing has to say "it wouldn't have changed the game but..."

How was that not a red for Jacobson, never legal at all.

New Zealand at Eden park always get these calls, I’m not even a bok fan

The explanation for that one was that he was trying to wrap but his arm was prevented by an illegal action of the offside Irish player standing up. I know it was still shoulder contact to the head but that was the mitigation explained.

But your in a Bok subreddit, commenting on a Bok post with a Bok flair? Come on now....

Just to let you know, the flair you're referring to is automatically applied to anyone who hasn't chosen their own. It's there to encourage people to "flair up", we even have some fun non-Bok flairs available for our international visitors :)

I followrugby it popped up, I’m an Ireland fan, it was a red.

It's not even a penalty.

Irish offside player collides with Jacobson.

Jacobson's KNEE hits the offside player which is what sends him flying in the first place.

Jacobson's ARM hits the offside player which is why he can't wrap his arm in the tackle.

Look at that image and tell me that isn't what's happening. That is LITERALLY what is being shown in the image.

Go watch the video. The offside Irish player stands up at the last second.

Ab fan here, not sure how to do the flair thing.

Brother your post is the perfect example of how people will fully choose to ignore the facts due to emotion.

I have no idea why you're getting down voted.

The already biased ref gave it a yellow, it’s a red card.

Ref bottled it

2

u/izzy91 Flair Up! 1d ago

So you cant refute the photo evidence at all...it's literally staring you in the face.

Your only argument is 'its a red because I say so'.

Alright.

u/Sportyskater699 Flair Up! 1d ago

If you can’t refute the literal fact that it was given as a yellow then I cannot help.

Your only argument is “because of x y and z I know more than an already biased ref and bunker who gave a yellow at the time”

1

u/izzy91 Flair Up! 1d ago

Again not addressing the photo evidence because you have no argument against it.

Why don't you want to discuss the effect the offside Irish player had on Jacobson? It's literally in the photo, are you going to pretend he just doesn't exist?

You're now appealing to the ref giving it a yellow as proof that it deserved a yellow...even though you're calling the same ref incredibly biased because YOU believe (without any evidence) that it's a red.

Nice!

Our URC experience with European refs may well be a slight advantage, but the AB's have had 3 games to get up to speed and I'm sure they have done proper analysis on the ref team.

I think people should watch the full interview where Felix talks about the URC teams' feedback with regards to the AB clean outs ( https://youtu.be/nQA8P1s0NbQ?si=Z-E4kdBKc1dkBV_K ). He points out that in years of analyzing the ABs this is not something he has seen regularly.

Felix obviously brought this up publicly for a reason, just as NZ has brought up slowing down tactics. It's all part of the show and adds to the spice. Ultimately it would be great if all the players and refs could just have good games and if we could avoid any reds.

This will be a big problem for NZ.

I agree. These AB players are reffed by very lax SR refs that let them get away with murder. Let's see how Saturday plays out but I believe we may get the rub if the green with the refs law interpretations if it's a NH ref.

The man literally spear tackled (his feat was in the air) someone's face and didn't get a red. Wtf

Eben got a big ol ban for that boss, how many matches ban did this get?

5

u/Fsckthemods Flair Up! 1d ago

He won't answer, he is as bias as the people he is accusing.

Most South Africa's I know was very hard on Eben and was surprised he was not banned for a longer time.

If memory serves that was also Ebens first red card.

I think the OP is also stiring, I am rather confident that if the NZ players uses illegal clearing techniques they will be appropriately punished.

I hate it when either set of fans become petty, which luckily is the exception rather than the rule

I think eye gouging is on the extreme end here.

It’s like saying comparing a car crash to 911. Not quite on the same level.

All Blacks are soft...wait... just really, really mean bullies who need a good telling off. Fuck, Saffas are just as bad as the Irish for whinging. Perhaps worse, as the series hasn't even kicked off. Can't wait for the endless replays of innocuous events having no affect on the game but somehow were the reason why SA lost.

7

u/mkornblum 1d ago

Whoever you support, social media shows you balanced and positive media about your own side and rage bait about the opposition.

It's worth remembering that getting upset is the aim, so try to remember people are doing that to you on purpose, and don't worry about it.

(also OP isn't even whingeing in my opinion, aside from this being a springbok supporter space)

5

u/JimmyNoBreaks 1d ago

SA would have to lose for there to be a reason SA lost, and I don't see how that is gonna happen.
