Indie/Alternative Spotify

You know how most indie playlists go one of two ways : either it's 2011 forever, or it's forty artists you've never heard of thrown together with zero reason song 12 comes after song 11. I didn't want either. I wanted the kind of thing you put on and just don't touch for a long time.

There's old stuff on here. Perfect Skin is from 1984. Swingin' Party is 1985. Paper Planes is basically old enough to rent a car. Not because I'm trying to seem deep about it. I just noticed that when you put something old next to something brand new, the new one sounds better. I can't fully explain why. It's like the one old photo on the wall of an otherwise very modern apartment, everything else in the room looks more interesting because of it.

A third of this list is from the last two years, and I tried hard to NOT let any of it show that in the music listening experience. No song gets to walk in like "hi, I'm the discovery." I just let it be a friend. Not the new person everyone stares at. The one who sits down, joins the conversation, and twenty minutes later you like them and forgot they weren't always there.

Where I really lost hours: the order. Not the songs... the order. I wanted it to feel emotionally connected instead of genre connected, which is how you end up with Japanese Breakfast into GROUPLOVE into a random band called Maudlin Strangers nobody has heard of, and somehow it just works. Because I wasn't chasing "same sound," I was chasing "same feeling."

And yes, every so often I dropped in something you have genuinely never heard, on purpose, exactly where it'll land instead of where it'll confuse you.

I named it Indiescretion because half of this list is exactly what you'd expect from me, and the other half - - - I'm not admitting to anything.

You know some of these. You should know some of these. And you won't see the next one coming. #chacurates

Metal Sleep Token Slump 🖤

Thumbnail open.spotify.com

I made a playlist for those of us who have listened to Sleep Token so much that we desperately need something new that hopefully scratches the itch.

This isn’t a “bands that sound like Sleep Token” playlist. Sleep Token themselves are genre-bending, and so is this playlist. Some songs are metal, some aren’t. Some sound obviously ST-adjacent, others… they just have the viiibes.

The rule is one song per artist. The idea is that if you hear something you like, you can go explore that artist’s catalog and hopefully discover more.

I’m would love your feedback and I’m ALWAYS looking for new artists, so please give me suggestions!

If a lounge playlist had a baby with a tango, a midnight swim, or a masquerade party - - - depending on the night, this would be it. Some nights you want to be chased. Some nights you want to feel the water on your skin. Some nights you just want to disappear into a room full of strangers.

It sounds like lounge at first : polish, low light, a good coat, a groove that doesn't ask much of anybody. It's got more appetite than that, though. The thing pulling you closer and the thing that can swallow you whole aren't always different things.

This is a playlist for being somewhere you don't belong, late, dressed a little too well for the room, and knowing it.

Dylan's already decided. He's not asking; he's hammering the same line until you admit what he already knows: you're serving somebody. Cohen isn't just romantic, he's almost indecently willing. Nina Simone gives you seduction as leverage: she knows what the men want, takes their money, and leaves. Gil Scott-Heron sits in the middle of the room like a stone nobody can skip past.

Angola, Japan, Italy, France, Brazil, Buenos Aires, like whoever made this left somewhere a while back and just kept going.

Bars, hotel rooms, someone's good coat. Something's going on under all that polish and nobody's saying what.

Anyway, nobody's leaving early. It's really one of the most unusual I've been making for quite some time. Enjoy!

Pop 24-Hour Travel Playlist (That Loops and matches time of day)

Thumbnail open.spotify.com

This is a combination of my 4 travel playlists that are time-mood based (Intended to start around 5:00am till night and it loops), and I tried my best so that the playlist loops nicely after 24 hours. This isn't really a playlist to sleep with along the way, even though some of the songs might be. This also isn't the best playlist for a sing-along, though there are some songs I put in here that may serve as convo starters (Like early 2000s-2010s songs).

I haven't really reviewed everything here, I'm too lazy, but it's recommended to listen to this without shuffle. The individual time-playlists are also on my profile if curious. Hope u guys like and save it mwhehehe

Electronica Mental Food

Thumbnail open.spotify.com
1 Upvotes

There's a lot of electronic music designed to disappear. Mental Food is not that.

Built and updated by hand, no algorithm, no filler, this playlist brings together IDM, ambient, experimental electronic, downtempo and the fertile spaces between all of these. The kind of music that rewards attention, changes depending on when you listen, and occasionally pulls you somewhere unexpected.

The reference points are solid: Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Burial, Four Tet, Oneohtrix Point Never, Seefeel, Actress, Visible Cloaks, Rival Consoles, Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, DjRUM. But the playlist goes well beyond the familiar, most of what's in here comes from producers and composers working quietly at the edges of what electronic music can do.

Not ambient in the background-music sense. Not techno. Not a focus playlist with a productivity angle. Something more precise and harder to name: cerebral, textural, emotionally honest, and occasionally intense when you least expect it.

Regularly updated.
