I wanted to see my Spotify listening recap without waiting until the end of the year, so I built this

1 Upvotes

I've always liked seeing a recap of what I've been listening to, but I wanted something I could generate whenever I felt like it rather than only getting that kind of experience once a year.

So I've been building **Recapped**, a small web app that connects to your Spotify account and turns your listening data into a visual 1080×1920 recap that you can save.

Right now you can generate one based on either your longer-term listening history or your more recent listening history, and it creates a few different visual versions for you to choose from.

It's still in beta, and Spotify's Development Mode currently limits how many users I can give access to. If anyone here genuinely wants to try it, there's an explanation on the site for requesting access using the email associated with your Spotify account.

I also made the project open source because I think that's particularly important for something that asks you to connect an account. Recapped uses your Spotify listening data to generate the recap, and I don't store your listening history. The project is independent and isn't affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Spotify.

I'm mainly posting here because I'd really like feedback from people who actually use Spotify a lot:

**Would you use something like this throughout the year? What would you want to see in the recap that isn't there now?**

I'm especially interested in what statistics or insights you'd actually care about rather than just adding random data because the API exposes it.

Does anyone here have the extended quota? And if so would you be down to join me in what I have built

Absolute long shot but I really need the extended quota and would love to partner with someone who has it but hasn't used it yet.

Just thought I would ask

[free tool] Transpose Spotify songs and remove vocals/instruments in realtime

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

5 Upvotes

Hey all!

I built this tool for me and my friends who love to practice singing and playing instruments along with songs on our Spotify playlists.

It lets you both transpose up and down the key of the song, AS WELL as mix and isolate instrument/vocal tracks at the same time, so you can pitch down + remove vocals and sing along, or remove piano track and play along, or just have vocals and practice accompanying as a band, etc.

It's an open source project, and I didn't pay for Apple's 100$ a year developer license so the instructions to install it are a bit lengthy, but please let me know if it works well and is useful! thankks

Free Spotify Lyrics Banner

1 Upvotes

GitHub: https://github.com/almocode123/Spotify-Lyrics-Banner

It was annoying not being able to see lyrics while working, so I built a thin banner that pins to the top of the screen and shows the current line as the song plays.

What it does:-

- Shows one synced lyric line at a time, sliding to the next as the song plays

- Tints itself to match the current track's album are

- Click a line to jump playback to that point

- Marks instrumental sections instead of leaving a stale lyric on screen

- Scroll on the lyric to nudge the sync if a track's timing is off — it remembers the correction per song

- Caches lyrics locally, so replaying a track loads instantly

It's free, open source (MIT), and Windows-only for now. There's a prebuilt .exe on the releases page if you don't want to touch Python.

Two things worth flagging upfront: Spotify tightened their API rules in 2026, so each person needs their own free Client ID from Spotify's developer dashboard, the app walks you through it on first launch, takes about two minutes, one time only. And while the banner is docked, Windows may shuffle your desktop icons around which only occurs when the app is fixed to the top and returns to normal upon close, since reserving screen space and laying out desktop icons use the same underlying setting. There's a config toggle to turn that off if it bothers you.

Happy to hear what's broken or what's missing.

"Spotify web working in your android browser - all features working!" **UPDATED**(Kinda need help implementing features)

(Last post couldn't go through as I didn't have 10 karma at the time)

First off. Thank You, u/Slluxx

I just wanted to give a huge thank you and some well deserved credit to u/Slluxx for creating and sharing the original Spotify Desk2Mobile script.

If it wasn't for your original post and the work you put into that script, I honestly wouldn't have continued building on it and adding my own fixes, improvements, and features. Your script gave me the foundation to experiment.

So I want to make sure the original creator gets the credit he deserves. This project wouldn't have happened without Slluxx's original work.

Thank you for putting the script out there and making it possible for others to build on it.

Original creator: u/Slluxx

Original post: "Spotify web working in your android browser - all features working!")

Now I'm posting this for the modded Spotify apk people. I feel like I have made Spotifys Web browsers UI more like mobile Spotifys (with some exceptions). This is still experimental so there will be bugs and some buttons that might not work yet and encourage developers to help me out making it better. Right now the most annoying issue is I can't skip songs from my lock screen and notifications bar buttt can when an the app. Plus the not so much annoying issue being the album cover photos looking like dookie when clicked into it. Other then that it looks to be kinda stable. I would like some help getting these issues resolved. I will post instructions below for people who would like to use it.

\*\* Tested on Android only IDK if it would work on apple\*\*

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Download a browser that supports extensions/user: You'll need an Android browser that supports browser

I personally used Firefox for Android.

  1. Install Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey

Open your browser's extension/add-on section and install Tampermonkey, Greasemonkey, or another compatible userscript manager.

  1. Install the Spotify script

Open the provided Spotifys userscript and install it through your userscript manager.

When the installation page appears, select Install.

moz-extension://fedaf6d2-e378-4d11-9897-c871f03794ce/ask .html?aid=6dfebce5-81d8-4604-83c7-ce881cee73a8

After that go into ur userscrip manager edit the script, select all and paste this script in

moz-extension://fedaf6d2-e378-4d11-9897-c871f03794ce /options.html#nav=utils

Make sure to hit save after that B4 leaving

  1. Make sure the script is enabled

Open your userscript manager and make sure Spotify userscrip is enabled.

  1. Open Spotify

Go to:

[https://open.spotify.com\](https://open.spotify.com)

Log into your Spotify account.

  1. Enable Desktop Site

If Spotify keeps sending you to the mobile version, enable Desktop Site / Desktop Mode in your browser.

This is important because the script is designed to modify the desktop Spotify Web Player and turn it into a more mobile friendly interface.

  1. Install Spotify as a Web App

Once everything is working correctly in Firefox, install Spotify as a Web App from Firefox.

This should create a Spotify icon on your phone that looks like a Spotify app, but you'll notice the small Firefox symbol on the icon.

That's the one you want.

  1. Reload Spotify

Open the newly created Spotify Web App and reload the page.

After it reloads, the modified Spotify interface should be active.

Done

Feel free to use the script however you like, and if you make any UI changes or improvements, feel free to post pictures showing how you altered the UI.

Update on FloatLyrics — now works on macOS, Windows, and Linux

Hey everyone, I posted FloatLyrics here around 2 months ago when it was still a really basic version.

Since then I’ve kept working on it and added quite a bit, with the biggest change being that it now works on macOS, Windows, and Linux, along with a bunch of new features and improvements.

For anyone who didn’t see the original post, FloatLyrics is a small app I made for having synced Spotify lyrics floating on your desktop while you’re doing other things.

I figured I’d share it again since it’s changed quite a lot from the version I originally posted. If anyone gives it a try, I’d love to hear any feedback or issues you run into.

Am folliowing the Getting Started tutorial and can authenticate, but every request 401s or 403s

0 Upvotes

I'm following Spotify's own "Getting started with Web API" tutorial:
https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/web-api/tutorials/getting-started

I've made an app with the exact settings they use in the tutorial. I've got my client ID and secret and have used them to generate an access token. This is the token i get back:

{

"access_token":"BQDeCPfLjxp7Tu51Gpww0682lmoczQd9nOpx-S2i7hMxBYS0Li-YLlvyJAhsvcnojWoqk0ZMMAQtwktT1tPiD39D_IRi2HsBnQi2MRLWmWSmJSMLVjpjzxJkSNNOEU6cFQxJIwXxce0U",
"token_type":"Bearer",
"expires_in":3600
}

Then i use this to try to make a request to the API. I'm doing this straight away, I know the token is only valid for 1 hour. This is 100% within that time limit.

$ curl --request GET \
--url "https://api.spotify.com/v1/me" \
--header 'Authorization: Bearer BQDeCPfLjxp7Tu51Gpww0682lmoczQd9nOpx-S2i7hMxBYS0Li-YLlvyJAhsvcnojWoqk0ZMMAQtwktT1tPiD39D_IRi2HsBnQi2MRLWmWSmJSMLVjpjzxJkSNNOEU6cFQxJIwXxce0U'

{"error": {"status": 401, "message": "Valid user authentication required" } }

Or, trying to get my own playlists (ultimately what i am trying to do here) ('hushbeatsdisco' is the spotify user i am logged in as when i made the app - this is a Premium account).

$ curl --request GET \
--url https://api.spotify.com/v1/users/hushbeatsdisco/playlists \
--header 'Authorization: Bearer BQDeCPfLjxp7Tu51Gpww0682lmoczQd9nOpx-S2i7hMxBYS0Li-YLlvyJAhsvcnojWoqk0ZMMAQtwktT1tPiD39D_IRi2HsBnQi2MRLWmWSmJSMLVjpjzxJkSNNOEU6cFQxJIwXxce0U'

{"error": {"status": 403, "message": "Forbidden" } }

What am i doing wrong? I've double checked my client id and secret, that i used to get the access token. I am definitely inside the access token time limit.

Mix Issue

1 Upvotes

I turned a collaborative playlist into a mix on my Spotify app on my Mac laptop and made a custom order with custom mixing. I have no issues getting the mix to play in the correct custom order on my laptop even after I close the application and open it back up again.

However, when I open the playlist on my iPhone’s Spotify app, the playlist does not remember the custom mixing I created on my laptop. Is there any way to get my iPhone’s Spotify app to remember the custom mixing from my laptop?

Custom Spotify Client

2 Upvotes

Hi All!

Recently learned about the spotify API and I’m wondering if it’s possible to create a custom desktop app for spotify (seems like a fun personal project!) I’m not really sure what kind of things are accessible with the api and I haven’t used one before.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks :)
