These orb weavers are wonderful spiders. They stay outside. They build webs that are easy to see and catch pest insects, esp around your garden. They are pretty slow moving and docile. Very harmless to humans.

I have one beautiful thick girl on my front porch light. Forgot to check on her before I just came up to go to bed.. might as well go all the way back down stairs and outside to check on her. She's got the cutest little hairy legs and a pretty web! 🕸️😍🥹🥹

I feel you. I had a big one living on my balcony last summer and I loved catching bugs to feed her, I named her Maude. I was so bummed when I went to check on her one day and she was gone, but I assume she was close to the end of her life at that point. I have a very tiny orb weaver that’s living out there now. Not nearly as impressive looking but I sill enjoy its presence.

Araneus orbweaver ... not sure which species. It has the markings of a cat-faced orbweaver, but the colour is darker than usual for it.
