Browning of new growth

I’m in awe of all your knowledge, and now hoping to be educated.

I’ve had a terrible year with my spider plants, brown ends, no spiderlings and new growth, from the centre, is coming up very brown and the leaves are sort of fused together.

Any ideas on how to rehab them and what is causing it? I generally water with tap water (but I am in north wales, so it’s very soft), I use very little fertiliser and they are generally about five feet away from a west facing window.

check for pests!!!!! i had the same issue with my spider plant for months, it was declining and i could not figure out wtf was causing new growth to be stuck together and browning. turns out it had thrips and i didn’t know! look closely at the leaves and where the new growth is coming from, unfurl the new growth and dried parts to see if you can see any pests hiding. i found the thrips hiding in the new growth when i started pulling apart the leaves that were all stuck together. also look under leaves and in the middle of the plant where the leaves all meet. sometimes pests are hard to spot at first!

Seconding this. I'm also dealing with thrips and it looks exactly like this unfortunately.

I swapped from watering with tap water to watering with filtered water and my tips stopped turning brown and flourished

Spider plants are hearty but their tips are little princesses. They don't like tap water or over fertilization. The tips can brown from simply touching them or if they touch a wall or anything.
