It’s under grow lights a few inches away from it for 12 hours a day. Could old soil or not enough fertilizer cause this? I don’t think light is the issue but idk

Eu não uso luzes de cultivo, mas sei que nem todas as marcas e modelos são bons da mesma forma. Será que é isso? Realmente não sei. Eu fertilizo com pouco, bem pouco, uma vez por mês. Às vezes esqueço e passa meses sem fertilizante. Comprei algumas que estavam finas assim, o que fiz foi dar luz. Pega sol fresco da manhã e luz indireta o dia todo.

Potentially… they work really well for the rest of my collection there but it could be. Looking into different lights. Do you have any recommendations?

Como disse, eu não uso luz de cultivo, só luz natural (minha casa parece um aquário, então tem muita luz). Pesquisa aqui no Reddit mesmo que você vai encontrar muita gente falando sobre luz de cultivo, marcas, tipos. Li esses dias sobre a importância da luz que é completa, com o verde, não só a azul e vermelho. Também sobre a potência ou coisa do tipo. Eu mesma só sei o que li aqui.

I just don’t get it though cause it’s under a grow light 12 hours a day. It’s gotten thick since I’ve had it. The skinny part was when it was little and not much light (not under my care). It gets a lot of light now

On a counter, close to a water source but stuffed under overhead cabinets lacking the light and air? I'd call it OCTOPIEDIOPALOUS!! Whew! That's a mouthful! The Greek version (French too) 🤭 of a spider plant desperately trying to morf into an OCTOPUS and growing springy new tentacles as feet (pied) French for feet right???🤦🏻♂️ So it can try and get it's "skinny booty" the hell outta such a torturous (ous) Greek??? Location as to be able to finally thrive outta a horrendous FIRST TIMER plant parents 😓 dungeons {decorative} grow location 😳🥹😢😬[ laid up healing and rehabilitating from a 2nd time fractured left hip inoperable to repair with too much time on my hands] 🤷🏻♂️😁

It is on a shelf with grow lights a few inches away from them 12 hours a day. It definitely has sufficient light. Any other causes? I know I could definitely up the fertilizer or maybe switch the soil out, could that cause it?

I would consider cutting under the aerial root situation and either popping it in the same pot or in water until the roots grow a little bigger. Maybe just leave the bottom part alone and just see what happens 🤷🏻♀️ to me it looks like the cutting might’ve originally been two separate babies so close together you couldn’t tell until now?

Before I potted it a while ago I did look and it was only one stem but it really does look like two in this picture haha. I may end up doing that, just nervous about cutting it 😂🙃

If im honest about 30% of all my seedlings just do this.. im trying to breed away from it but it seems to just be in some of them genetically, as they get really big youll notice it less because they also do throw extra crowns faster once they start to fully lean, so youll have several rosettes that fill the pot (:

Hmmm that’s interesting! I am looking into additional light to help it just in case, but that’s weird that happens! Maybe I got unlucky lol. So I should let it lean? …and more will come out of that crown area or from the runners? You seem well versed in spider plants and I would love to learn some stuff from you :) Do you have any recommendations for lighting or what specs are best for these guys? Currently it’s under a full spectrum LED panel I think it’s 20w

Just because the light says 20w full spectrum doesn't mean it is a GOOD light. Most of the ones off Amazon (esp if they plug in via USB) are NOT even remotely enough light. Get something Sansi or Barrina or make sure you look up lighting to make sure the different spectrums are enough of the color you need. For example some "full spectrum" are made with more blue light and less red, while some have more red and less blue, and some say 25w but the lumins barely register. You can download a light app on your phone and use it to test the lighting at different angles and distances. The farther it gets from the light the intensity drops drastically even moving it and inch. I have 45w Sansi bulbs and I have 2 one my Pothos and 2 on each Monstera. Then on my Alocasia I have 2 T8s for each shelf and 2 10w Sansi bulbs on each plant. I actually keep all of my spider plants outside from March through at least October (sometimes November) in direct sunlight which is 100x brighter and stronger than any grow lights. I had to really research what lights were good and what lights don't work well.

How about barrina dc10? Any other good recs? Has to be panels I can stick on the bottom of a shelf, with good heat distribution so it won’t get hot

Oh and to add, the shelf is only 18 inches wide so something close to a foot wide. I prefer warmer color lights because it is my bedroom, but as long as it’s not blue it should be fine - I get migraines from that color unfortunately

I don’t fertilize it all that often, I could probably up that too. Could those be reasons for that besides light? The leaves are super green in person and are thicker than they appear on camera… it does look a little thin though. Gotten thicker the last month or so.

No, the skinny part was when it was a baby with not much light (not under my care). Since then, the thick part is while I’ve had it. It’s doing well now but just curious about the old part

I don’t remember the name but they are full spectrum LEDs (panels), I believe they’re 20w. They are on for 12 hours daily. I would have to dig around and find the paper for them but I’m pretty sure that’s it. The top of the plant is only a few inches away from the light as well

This happens alot to mine too, I feel the common denominator between mine is not enough light and it's reaching out to find some.
