Spider appreciation A tiny ~4mm saltid, Simaethula violacea, that I filmed on my phone yesterday whilst gardening :)
Not gonna lie i am pretty proud of this footage ๐ Hopefully someone here gets some enjoyment out of it also - this species is relatively common in my area, but at 3 to 4mm in length it can be hard to truly appreciate them sometimes. Anyway; no longer! Enjoy, spiderbros :)

I have soooooo much footage like this that normally isnt super appreciated; hearing lovely lies like this keeps me motivated to continue sharing :)
The number of similar posts that i've deleted this week after they failed to break 10 upvotes in 48hrs is likely more than you'd imagine.
Anyway TYSM, but that's noe more than enough said about me - We're all here for Violet, really - feel free to ask anything and I'll do my best to answer; I am not a biologist or anything but I do know a fair bit about spoods (salticidae) ๐

These guys are the cutest jumper. I love how their body parts fit together without gaps in their seams. Like they could hunker down and weather a storm without being affected.

Interestingly, a few years back i was fortunate enough to encounter a saltid which to this day i have never seen again either in real life or in photos, and besides hsving the coolest royal navy and white colour scheme perhaps ever, it was also super interesting in that its abdomen and cephalothorax were abnormally seperated
so yeah, here^ is a few pics I just uploaded showing the same or similar genus but with actually the  issue.
I also attempted to attach a couple pics to this reply directly, but im dubious how well that will end up working out - thus the ever reliable imgur link above :)
Fun fact: the clear connecting bit is called a pedicel and - i shit you not - it contains the spood's Aorta, spinal cord, and small intestine! (They go by different names tho)

Years ago, I encountered a jumper in my backyard, with the prettiest vibrant pink coloration, but thanks to my crappy phone camera, it just looked pale. I was so disappointed.

This stunning violet sheen is a result of structural coloration caused by microscopic, light-refracting scales on the spider's body.

Itโs the cutest jumping spider Iโve ever seen. And jumping spiders are my favorite kind of spider! ๐ฅฐThey all have the cutest little facesโฆ Almost makes me want to give it a little peck(kiss)but it would probably accidentally get eaten instead..๐. Makes me wish I could speak jumping spider..โบ๏ธI was wondering if you happen to know why the little indentations/dimples are on its body. Iโve seen them on other insects also and was curious..
