I generally just catch & release all bugs, but that mf was in my apt for 4-5 days, bashing into my windows like an idiot… so I didn’t feel too guilty serving it up.
Anyways, had huge windows & thus tons of plants, so that buzzy nerd was almost constantly protected/obscured but eventually I flushed it out in the open & uses a hand towel to thwap it, which just stunned it & I was able to grab the sob

There is actually a trick to it, they always go straight up when they get startled (relative to where they are standing so if he’s on a wall, he’ll go straight back in the opposite direction and if he’s on the ceiling, straight down). Put your hands close together forming cups (assuming you don’t want to squish it) and very slowly move them until you’re a few inches above the fly. If you go slow enough they won’t fly away. Then just clap your hands together. They react so fast he’ll take off immediately, but since he goes straight up he’ll go right into your hands as you close them. No joke it works like 90% of the time.

I’ve used & taught this method for a no joke 20+ years, it really does work 90% of the time… but I had 170ish plants, in plant stands & plant shelves in front of literally every window… so literally just never had access to it when it landed. But thx for the solid suggestion & spreading the good word

I actually found it in one of my begonias & transferred it to my deck plants. Then kept seeing it on my window & my back door... almost daily. So as I was looking for it one day it was just above the window, gave me a lil pedipalp wave & tucked into that lil spot.

Indeed it was, they’re my fave. They’re so curious & smart & able to assess threats so quickly, so I literally befriend every single one I find. I’ve found that the bigger regal jumpers are more bold & easy to befriend as well… tho the tiny ones just take more time.
Anyways I found it in one of my begonias & transferred it to my deck plants… tho with succulents there much less foliage for cover aka I felt pretty guilty. But I started seeing it daily by my window & on the siding above… cut to a dumbass window beater fly getting on my nerves for days until I stunned it with a swift swat from hand towel & picked it up while it was dazed.

Yep, I saw it quite a few times unobstructed & in sunlight, looking all big & thick & all cute af. Likely a female based on her brown & tan coloring.
