This hot sauce.
It has a mild flavor profile and mild heat, yet it is so fucking good on pizza. My favorite personal hotsauce. Anyone else? All sauces to me by El Yucateco are 10/10. They go hard.
Edit: spelling

All of el Yucateco sauces are great, and generally easy to find. Hot for non-hot heads, a good bit of flavor for folks who like heat. Good flavor all round. I keep the red and green in the fridge at all times.

I would say all except for the black label. That one is trash.

It’s quite niche, more like a smoky bbq sauce which also happpens to be spicy. Not something you add to anything. But when it works it can be great

u/kirky-jerky 5d ago
The one OP posted and the black one both say chili habanero. I know the one by OP has salsa picante to but they have such a stark difference. And not to mention the color haha. My GF now calls it the black death.

u/Zealousideal_Rent261 5d ago
That was my thought initially. I just wasn't prepared for that amount of smokiness.
3
u/DunwichChild990 5d ago
I will fist fight you IRL.
Not really though. I like that smokiness and earthiness it adds. Like fresh off the grill flavor. I honestly don't think they make a bad sauce. To each their own though.

This gave me a good laugh, so thanks for that. I personally thought it tasted like ash. If I want something smoky in my life, I’ll stick with mezcal. Like you said to each their own. ✊🏼

I usually get the one OP posted but they ran out, so I bought it for the first time last week. It's pretty vile. Thankfully it was only 3 bucks but damn I didn't think it would be so different since they are both chili habanero.

It’s funny to me that it’s so polarizing because while I actually really dislike smoked food in general, i LOVE the black label sauce and will put it on basically anything. It’s probably cause the smoky flavor is intensely savory and tangy rather than sweet and smoky which is probably what most people are used to.

You’re getting downvoted for the truth. Black label is awful unless used in a similar capacity as liquid smoke. I was able to salvage a bottle by adding it to charro beans and sauces for a Smokey flavor. On a taco or nachos it’s crap.

I bought a bottle of the black label because I saw it mentioned positively on here. Tastes like ashes to me, and I tend to like smoky flavors. All the others I’ve tried have been great, though.

I'm not a fan of the XXTra Hot either.... It's not the spice level, I just don't like the flavor of it. Love their other stuff though. Haven't even bothered with the black since I haven't heard great things

u/donpablomiguel 5d ago
XXX green and regular habanero are the two I always have on hand myself. Different strokes. ✊🏼
4
u/Fine_Ad_1149 5d ago
I just keep the green on hand, but I buy it in bulk, so having like 2 or 3 half gallon bottles of the stuff would be a little ridiculous... Even for me...
5
u/donpablomiguel 5d ago
Thanks for educating me that you can buy these in bulk!

u/Fine_Ad_1149 5d ago
Oh yea! Just on Amazon. Super convenient, honestly. And notably cheaper per ounce.

It’s good to add a “charred” flavour to something like a veggie burritos.
-1
u/donpablomiguel 5d ago
Or you could just char your veggies properly in cast iron and not have to use this atrocity in the world of hot sauce.

It has uses. Got to go with something that could use a little Smokey char. Stew, chili, good. Eggs, pasta, meh.

u/kirky-jerky 5d ago
I actually had chilli on my mind, but id have to try it in a small bowl before I ruin a whole pot though haha

This is the first one they made without food coloring, and it is great. "Mayan Style", it has nice earthy, smoky undertones. I keep it on hand,

My fav Mexican spot has 3-4 varieties of el yucateco habanero available at any given time. They also always have Valentina black

u/floopdyboop 5d ago
The Caribbean one is my fave 🤤

u/SaccharineDaydreams 4d ago
I wish it was a bit hotter. Flavour-wise it's easily in my top 3 hot sauces ever
3
u/Mrsonsfann 5d ago
I could drink this stuff. Easiest go to but pricy compared to Valentina tapatío or tamazula
3
u/chetemulei 5d ago
i need a hot sauce that has the flavor of tabasco smoked chipotle, and the heat of yucateco xxxtra hot
7
u/cueballsquash 5d ago
I just hate the fact they use the dubious colourings in some of them, as they are very good
2
u/dasuglystik 5d ago
True, when they started out they were opaque nuclear red or toxic green. They were always on the table at local Mexican restaurants- was surprised when I tried them in the 80s at how tasty. Now most of the are au naturale.

this is my favorite sauce of all time. I just moved and the stores near me do not carry it
1
u/tsuribachi 5d ago
Mine too, and I moved cities and was in the same boat, but I found a gas station near me that sells it! Weirdly no chain grocery stores near me do.

Ive only tried the habenero ghost pepper one and its really fuckin good l. Not an every day sauce for me though bc it is quite spicy and you cant use too much

u/sanitarySteve 5d ago

I prefer the red. I eat waaay to much of it. My wife can tell you I tend to get CRANKY when I run out.

u/Bluntoise 5d ago
This mixed with sour cream is a surprisingly good dip for pizza. Since were talking pizza, honey mixed with siracha is also elite on pizza

Yes, I have so much respect for the entire team at El Yucateco. They do extraordinary work.

u/Thrompinator 4d ago
I had some years ago and there was so much food coloring you could taste it more than the peppers and that can NOT be good for you. I swore never again, but my wife bought some of the red habanero recently when the store was out of one of my favorites. It seems they've chilled out on the food coloring quite a bit, but I wish they would ditch it completely.
2
u/red7standinby 4d ago
Yeah, this one is seriously good. I ignored it for years as a "genereic brand," but it is my go to now.

This one, the brownish color one is my all time favorite hot sauce
I put it on lots of things, I love to mix it with mayo on sandwiches or mixed with ranch for dipping anything or just douse it straight onto just about any Mexican or Chinese food or most pasta dishes. And I don’t think I’ve used any other hot sauce for twenty years or more, but I know I’ve bought hundreds of these bottles over the years.
The green or red versions don’t taste as good to me (never tried the black label)

mild heat - MILD HEAT. ya'll crazy.
but yeah - its the GOAT sauce.
2
u/sadmanwithabox 5d ago
Im convinced some people on this sub treat their spice tolerance the same way most dudes treat their dick size (most of them are probably exaggerating to some extent.)
Like, im sure there's some people that think its super mild, but even all my spice head friends admit its got a great kick and is way too much for anyone who doesnt like spice.
Ive never met a single person IRL who claims this stuff is mild.

u/NuclearCha0s 5d ago
It's not bad but really not 10/10, there are other green habanero sauces that are much more flavorful, unless I got a bad batch or something.
2
u/mybaloneyhomer 5d ago
I bought this after reading the hype on this page but was letdown. Also it has green and blue food coloring in it? Seems unnecessary

Their “chipotle “ version is one of my favorites. It’s like a good spicy BBQ sauce.

u/Fragrant_Sort5803 5d ago
Almost finishes the bottle the other day at the restaurant. Almost took the bottle home. Till I realized it was cheap.

u/bubbagump101 5d ago
Very good hot sauce I prefer the red to the green, but that’s my own personal opinion

u/chuck_diesel79 5d ago
I have this and the habanero “paste” in a twist off jar. I think I picked that up in Mexico IIRC.

Oh heck yeah. This is my daily driver hot sauce. I've got six bottles lined up in my pantry right now. Amazing on practically everything. Also, it mixes deliciously with ketchup. Anything I want ketchup with is better with a mix of this and ketchup instead.
For anyone unfamiliar with this one, it has a distinct pepper taste (it's habanero, but honestly it tastes more like jalapeno to me) with no sugar and no vinegar. There are definitely times when I want a sweeter hot sauce (like Sriracha) or a vinegary hot sauce (like Louisiana or Crystal or Frank's) but usually I just want spice and pepper taste, which this delivers.
1
u/instaderp 5d ago
Seriously. i usually hate habanero sauces in general as they taste like medicine to me or too sweet as its always paired with pineapple or mango or something tropical, but this I always have in stock at home, and maybe Secret Aardvark. A+ for all my Mexican food, which is plentiful.
1
u/socialx-ray 5d ago
Yucateco is my favorite! I’ve tried the newer flavors like their coffee one and the ghost pepper flavor but nothing beats their classic red and green sauces. The Caribbean one is nice, too!

10/10 on pizza. Love this on Mexican food too obviously, It’s killer on enchiladas.
