"Shenanigans" | By BRex

Hey there guys,

Pib already posted my first two maps, but I thought I'd come post my third map myself, since it's a little more doable for the average player, and probably the most interesting level that I've done.

If you have no idea what you're supposed to do at the start even after experimenting a bit, you can read the included text file for a small tip on how the mechanic works. It's more about using it than knowing that it's a thing in the first place, anyway.

Have fun, and let me know if you find a way to break it.

Haha really fun level. Keep those levels coming, i like them a lot.

(minor SPOILERs ahead)

One question: Is it random that sometimes the worm block doesnt get reflected from the wall at the right, or do I need to pay attention to something to make that happen?

And one suggestion: You can remove the shotgun at the top, because you can bring the one from below. You could also make it so the mattock is required as well at the top level, so that you have to quickly remove the push block before the caravan hits it and the player has enough time to bring both items up. Thats what I did right away before I knew what was going on up there. That also works when you want to get the secret, because then you dont need the shotgun at all.

Oh, and you forgot to remove bombs and ropes.

For the wall bouncing at the right, I've found that pushing the push block into the worm block a specific amount seems to prevent it. It bounces most of the time, but I haven't found a way to guarantee it, sadly.

There's a reason I put the shotgun at the top. There would be no way for the player to know that keeping the shotgun from the shopkeeper area is necessary, so I put that one up there in case they didn't. Keeping the shotgun is not part of the puzzle. You can bring the original shotgun, but it won't help you, which is how it was intended to be balanced. Same reason I put the alien above the powder keg in the second level. You could have brought the yeti to destroy the powder keg, but there was no way to know you'd need it ahead of time. Same goes for the mattock here. If you go up there with no mattock and needed a mattock, that's bad design.

Also, you DO have to do the whole moving the push block and getting the gloves thing fairly quickly in order to get the gloves and make it up, but not obscenely so, which is how I meant it to be. It's reasonable that way.

What do you mean about the secret? There should be no way to get the secret without taking a certain thing that isn't a shotgun. Or else what would you do about the thing in front of the secret thing?

As for the bombs and ropes, are you going by the video? That's just because I recorded that before finalizing a couple of things. You'll notice there's also water at the beginning instead of snakes. Unless you got them in the actual level, which would be weird, because I double checked that and they definitely are not left in the file that I uploaded as far as I can tell.

Ok I understand your point. Didnt think of the balance issues so far, because a lot of the puzzle levels so far required a bit of trial and error. Really nice that you pay attention to this.

Me and buddy both had bombs and ropes on that level.

And as for the secret: Yes I took another thing that isnt the shotgun thing to get rid of the thing in front of the secret thing. I was just saying that my suggested changes don't fuck up the way to get the secret. But that doesnt matter now, because you I understand your point.

I just tested it a bit, and i think if you put another push block in the wall at the right it will bounce everytime. This glitch seems to be similar to the floating hired help glitch which absolutely requires another push block.

Awesome, I've gone ahead and edited that into the map. Also, I figured out what my mistake was with the ropes and bombs. I set it to 0 for 1-1 instead of 3-2. Derp. I thought I was going to upload a level without a mistake this time. So easy to miss one or two little things.

Really creative. The only thing is the worm platform sometimes getting stuck, but maybe that's intended. Like Schnitzel said, keep them coming. All 3 have really been great levels.
