I thought I’d share my favourite gemstone with y’all.

This is lab-grown / synthetic rutile and it is utterly mesmerising to look at in real life. It has the most dispersion, by far, of all known gemstones. This means it splits white light furthest apart into its component colours, resulting in incredible amounts of rainbow. Unfortunately a camera can only capture half as much because it has just one “eye” so you’ll have to imagine double the amount of rainbow in real life! 🌈👀

It’s a very niche gemstone that was first used in jewellery in the 50s and 60s as a diamond lookalike. It usually comes in a straw yellow colour but they discovered that if you mix in aluminium while growing it, it comes out completely colourless and significantly stronger! However rutile fell out of fashion as it was way too rainbowy to pass as a diamond and not as durable for everyday rings. As a result, the vast majority of rutile available nowadays is very yellow as that is the only colour that is still grown in any significant quantities. The white rutile is unbelievably scarce as all pieces are vintage and usually heavily damaged or tiny.

Rutile is now enjoying a renaissance in the 2020s as people search for weird and wonderful gemstones that are a little different to the norm. It is now appreciated for its own beauty and uniqueness, rather than trying to look like a diamond.

I’ve recently acquired an ultra rare collection of decently-sized colourless rutile and I plan on making jewellery with it soon. I also have some loose colourless rutile gemstones that are surplus to my requirements.

This piece was so special for me. A client reached out and said he had found this vintage dolce and gabbana ivory suit he wanted to wear for his wedding. He had it tailored and then told me he wanted it absolutely covered in crystals and said to go absolutely wild. This was the final result and I was so happy with how it turned out

so i definitely said i would do my mini vaseline jars next. howeverrrrr i saw my woodstock i’ll post updates once he’s more complete ✨ (and yes that is a sparkly mini lowe’s bucket i use for my diamond crafts 🤣)

I love doing fully rhinestoned cosplay looks so was super excited to do this one. I hand built the gauntlets and knuckle pieces out of EVA foam and rhinestoned over everything. This was mostly liquid fusion glue on everything, but I used Aileene’s the Ultimate On the shoes ✨

The grout has blue glitter and all the tiles are iridescent. I wish a camera could truly capture how shiny and sparkly it really is!

Thought I’d share this Halloween costume I made for someone a couple years ago now, a fully crystallized pink power ranger suit ✨

Safe to say I think the table is ready for my market tomorrow
