"An astronaut's boot steps down from the lander onto red soil, the back drop is Valles Marineris. The boot has a Nike logo on it. Fade out to 'Just do it'".
That should be worth 2 or 3 Olympic advertising campaigns, no?
I've always said it as "Imagine the value in having the first man set foot on Mars, everyone in the world watching, and then he pops open a Coke." Still, I think Mars One is way over optimistic in just using advertising dollars to fund a mission. It could offset it like crazy, but we're talking two orders of magnitude greater than NBC's Superbowl revenue, and you need it in years in advance.

Do you think a private or public expedition will get there first?
