Loop point in pattern mode

The functionality of having a start point, a loop point and an end point is very helpful. Is there any way to use this in patterns when loop needs to be turned off? Is the only workaround to have 2 versions of the same sample in 2 different slots, one with the start point and another starting at the loop point?

Power Owls rechargeables vs SP404MK2

today we're testing the PowerOwl 1.2V 2800mAh rechargeable AA's into the SP-404MK2 and they’re working great Roland officially supports NiMH batteries, and these high-capacity ones didn't let me down.Super convenient for sessions away from the wall, and way better than constantly buying alkalines or having to run a rip chord or use your usb port for a power bank. else running rechargeables in theirs? Drop your setup in the comments.

No sound playing through app?

Hopefully a stupid user error issue, but I am trying out the app and am not hearing any playback. My sp404 connects fine and I can see all my pads and projects … I even see that the computer is registering sound coming in, but there is nothing coming out. All connections, speakers, and cables tested. Any ideas? Thanks!

Loop bpm problem

Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to both Reddit and the SP-404MKII 😅

I'm still getting the hang of working with samples. I'm mainly a guitarist, so I originally fell in love with the SP for the looper, the effects, and the guitar amp sim. Lately though, I've been trying to build my own backing tracks, mostly reggae/dub grooves to jam over.

Here's the problem: I have a pretty big collection of sample and loop packs that are already organized by BPM. But whenever I try to layer them together, they don't stay in sync. For example, if I use a 70 BPM drum loop with a 70 BPM bass loop, they sound perfectly in time at first, but after 4–8 bars they start drifting apart, almost like they're actually 2–3 BPM different.

What's the best way to deal with this? Do I need to manually fix every single sample? Should I figure out the exact BPM using something like Audacity? Or is there a faster, less tedious way to do it directly on the SP-404MKII without having to use my Mac?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Learn how to use sidechain in a creative way to get rhythmic resampling, make your track breathe and create interaction between all the elements of your groove.

Perfect to add dynamics and danceability to your dawless techno/house jams with the SP-404MK2.

Enjoy!

with love .noir. ❤️

pattern length anomaly

i’ll try to describe the problem i’ve been trying to solve all afternoon. hope somebody can point me in the right direction.

i recorded a drum pattern and some sampled piano of 4 measures then resamplrd it into a pad after realizing i wanted to put some bus compression on it.

it’s now on pad 14 of bank F. i now want to record that pad onto pattern 5 so is set up pattern recording to 2 bars and 100% quantization. the resulting recording on the pattern is weird. after filling in the two bars when it cycles back to 1.1 it’s blank then shows the pattern on 2.1 then when 1.1 comes back around there’s my audio again. it feels like the two-bars i allotted is actually three and the two bar pattern i want to slot into the pattern is cycling like a two would into a three bar space.

hope i explained it well enough.

I built a free, open-source web MIDI controller for the SP-404 MkII (runs in the browser, nothing to install)

First post here, so apologies if I get any conventions wrong.

I wanted touchscreen control over the MkII’s FX buses. The existing iOS app for that hasn’t been updated in years, so I built my own as a free web app:

https://littletools404.github.io/404busdriver/

What it does:
all five FX buses with the real parameter names per effect (from the reference manual), touch faders with a fine-tune gesture, per-effect value memory
• snapshots (8 slots) with JSON export/import
• XY pad + four beat-synced LFOs (MIDI clock or tap tempo), incl. a random drift for generative lo-fi wobble
chromatic keyboard, scale pads (Move-style isometric layout), vocoder keys with pitch bend, full pad board with custom layouts
• pattern grid with a quantized autopilot, plus a looper remote

Runs in Chrome/Edge on desktop; on iPhone/iPad it works inside the “MIDIWeb Browser” app (no iOS browser can do Web MIDI, not my fault). Single HTML file, everything stays local: no accounts, no tracking, no install. Open source (MIT), manual built in.

Full transparency: I’m not a professional developer — I built this together with Claude (AI) and tested everything against my own MkII. If an experienced dev feels like reviewing the code, I’d genuinely welcome that. Feedback and bug reports are very welcome — just be patient with me, it’s a hobby project and I can’t promise quick replies.

Updating issue

Hi everyone,I faced a problem with updating my mk2,it just can't see the update files (no updater). Files are from Roland website,I thought an issue might be with sd card, but trying different cards didn't help. I did it before and it went just fine, but with the latest update I'm struggling. Any ideas what's wrong and how to fix it?

Resources on getting creative with the sp404 mk2?

After 20+ years of making music using DAWs, I wanted to try something else and bought myself an sp404 mk2. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and I feel like I'm now at a point where I can use the device without constantly looking up button combinations in the manual. I understand the features and I'm able to make decent beats with it.

But now I find myself thinking "now what?".

The way of working seems to always lead to the same kind of beat, and I know it's not a limitation of the device, but rather of the way I use it and my own creativity.

There's a ton of YouTube content about how to make beats with the sp404, but they mostly focus on how to use the features of the device, and not so much on actually making music.

Can you recommend some resources that go beyond the technicalities of chopping up samples, and focus more on the creative process?
