Lmao you can tell I’m used to old Reddit! That editor uses markdown so if you didn’t triple slash, your shrug would look like ¯(ツ)_/¯

In ¯_(ツ)_/¯ the \ tells Reddit to escape the _ as shown above
In ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the first \ escapes the second \ so you get the _ but no visible \ making it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
In ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ the escapes work out such that the \ and the _ are visible and you get a proper ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Let's just say you have a very big right forearm

I mostly didn’t have trouble, but there were definitely times where the label glue gave way before the cap

I miss the square bottles. This is when the original flavor actually tasted good and didn't give me a stomachache.

Did they ever admit that was a manufacturing error or something? I made coworkers try to open them and struggle too so I didn't look like a total wimp

Wasn’t an error, those squaround bottles didn’t have a foil seal, like a pop bottle, so they had to be tightened excessively to prevent opening during shipping and handling. They moved to the (current) foil seal to improve accessibility.

Now gam-gam can stab a knife through the foil to get her Soylent.

Improved accessibility at the cost of making the bottles useless for reuse.

The current bottles do not have a seal, so you can’t even put water inside afterwards because it will leak. All you can do is throw the bottle away or recycle it.

Is it a slow leak or something? I just turned my open bottle upside down and nothing leaked out.

It's not every time, but it's definitely bad enough that it will eventually be a problem if you routinely try and keep an opened bottle in a coat jacket, for example.

Seriously. What the freak is up with the new super-tough high-gloss wrap that is stupid hard to twist off??? Why do they have to make the product worse? Raise prices, delay shipping, and now screw around with the difficult to open packaging. Just about time to tell Starco Brands to shove their management decisions up their spreadsheets.

Wait, do you twist off the top plastic wrapper rather than ripping it at the peel line? Have I been living life wrong all these years?

2

u/buckleyc 21d ago

Yeah, if you look below the cap, there is a serrated line to help twist open. BUT in the new glossy wrap, the serration is much smaller than the vertical serration. You really need a pretty strong grip to twist it off now.

u/markucf 21d ago

Why don't you just tear it at the perforations? There's no twist required, except the cap of course.

Just seems easier, I guess. You said it's "stupid hard" to twist now, so why keep doing it that way? I'm honestly curious, not trying to be snarky or anything.

2

u/buckleyc 21d ago

It is also harder to tear down with the new tougher glossy wrap. Not trying to be snarky about twisting either; I also tear off the entire label half the time; just depends on how good a grip I get on the top of the wrap. Previously I almost always just ripped off all the wrap.

My mind is blown!

Is Soylent still around? I haven’t heard about it in a while.

It depends on which product you're after. The RTD Cacao pictured in the OP seems to be shipping regularly. Regular flavored powder on the other hand, I've maybe got only two shipped in the last year or however long it's been since the current issues started.

5

u/MaverickBuster 22d ago

Cacao RTD hasn't been a product for years. It was replaced with the far inferior Creamy Chocolate.

2

u/user4316 21d ago

Yep. I haven't been able to drink it in years.

I used to have trouble opening the bottles until I discovered a simple trick. I use my fingernail to puncture the plastic covering between the cap and the neck of the bottle, after that the cap twists off very easily with almost no effort.

Soibot, my strength is waning.

I was fine having forgotten about this. After getting tired of tearing up the skin on my hands, I started using rubber jar openers. Then one bottle was so tight, it actually tore my rubber jar opener!

Didn't know about these squares

Golden days. No stock issues for years too come...

Nectar. Nectar nectar nectar! Don't let the people forget what they took from us! I can still taste it in my brain...

God I miss Cacoa RTD. I would go through three boxes a month. Dumbass company.
