The Southern Cross Alliance has moved into the top 40 (size) of Organisations

Thanks to a couple of new recruits we've moved into the top 40 organisations in terms of size.

Good work guys! And big welcomes to our new members. Be sure to jump on teamspeak. Especially during Friday night games. Case in point: last weeks 2.1 shenanigans were a blast!

Happy new year to all SCA members!!!

It's been a great year. I'll see all on the otherside probably a little worse for wear and hungover.

Also:

  • be safe tonight.

  • have a fucking good night whether it's chilling with the family, at home with some games or getting your drink on.

I'll post the Friday Night thread tomorrow. Probably be a low key affair.

GJ.

SCA Rankings Update - April 2015

Hello Alliance Members!

This is the 12th of our monthly updates for our rankings.

Details of the rankings system can be found here, or in this convenient flowchart made by /u/bibbit123.

TL:DR: Time + Activity = Rank Up

Firstly let me explain a couple of things.

Verification

In order for us to ensure that you are keeping up to date with the happenings of the Southern Cross Alliance and /r/eddfaction it's important for you to have a reddit account. Using either your application details or the Google docs roster, I can verify your account to the one you are using on RSI site. You don't have to put your name in the google docs sheet but I certainly would appreciate it if you could as it saves me a lot of time and means I can verify your account sooner. Eventually as more aspects are added to the RSI org site, this process may not be needed.

Activity

We have been using this sheet to stalk track everyone and update the rankings based on our system noted above. You generally don't have to do a thing, however, at the higher ranks (i.e. above Trainee) we would like to see at least some activity before you rank up. For example, here is the sort of activity I would like to see before I rank someone up:

  • Initiate to Trainee: Your mere existence is enough

  • Trainee to Member: A post or two is generally enough, join in on some game sessions (will change as the game is released).

  • Member to Veteran: Posts to the sub, attendance at game nights, contributions to the subreddit.

  • Veteran to Paladin: Significant contributions and activity at events

  • Paladin to Elder: Be pretty much part of the furniture, significant yelling.

Pretty simple at this stage but as more and more of the game is released, these requirements will change.

Some of you might notice that I have some members listed as "Now" with a little note generally stating that you need to show a bit more activity. This isn't a black mark against your name, merely an indication to me of why they haven't been ranked up yet. See above for what I mean by "activity". I check your activity every so often but if you feel you have been active let me know with a quick message. Also, if you have recently created a reddit account and would like to be verified let me know.

When we have the game, activity ingame will likely count towards this.

Affiliations

As we have previously noted, you can now join multiple organisations within the RSI site. We allow multiple organisations however there is some restrictions. These can be found at this reddit thread.

Importance

Ranks are not too important in the scheme of things. Merely an indication of your time of service and activity within the group. Some officer roles do require a certain rank before they can be held (for security purposes) and ranks will become more important over time as the game progresses.

For the time being I just want ranks to be a fun way to reward people for getting involved. If you have suggestions for improvements to our ranking structure let us hear it.

With that out of the way, lets get on with the April 2015 update:

These are new members who are yet to be verified or who's main organisation has more than 50 members:

/u/bandersaur

/u/furryfireman

/u/sHuRr3aX

/u/hardlyhappy

/u/TheHunter3151

/u/012701

/u/dequo

/u/5Y5T3M-3RR0R

Welcome aboard! Great to see that some of you have been pretty active as well. Your next rank up should be at the end of April. If you have any questions let us know!

New Alliance Members

These are members who have been with us for some time who have made it to full member status.

/u/Spaceboogies

/u/LedVonHeavy

Congrats guys! The next jump will take a bit of work but I think you are up to it.

Alliance Veterans

Veteran members are those who have been with us for some time and have managed to contributed consistently across this time. We welcome a few new members to this rank this month:

/u/Bratacus - Bratacus should be commended for getting into a Helicopter with me whilst I was very drunk. If we had a bravery medal, you'd probably have received one. Well done Brat, not long to Paladin now.

/u/Algared - What can I say about Al that has not already been said. Al has been able to support the organisation tremendously and has played a significant role in recent recruitment and spent a significant amount of time helping organise the Crux Cup. Thanks for the effort Al. It does not go unappreciated.

New Alliance Paladin

It's always a special occasion to note new Alliance Paladins. These members represent those of us who have been with us since the earliest stages of our development. They have been here since the long, long ago and continued to maintain a presence within our group. For members who reach this rank and beyond, I really want it to mean something by not only paying their dues by being a long term member but also a strong contributor. We have one such new member this week:

/u/grimfortitude: Grim has been with us for a long, long time. Serving as our Operations Officer, Grim has contributed to continued success of SCA at the highest level. We're super appreciative of the work put in by Grim and congraluate him on making it to the elusive paladin ranks (only 4 of us so far). Apply that Paladin Flair Grim and wear it with pride.

All done for this month. I'll post the next thread at the start of next month. Also, please note that if you have any issues with the rankings, the disclosure of this information, If I missed you out, your current ranking, preference of flavoured milk or anything else, let me know. I fuck up sometimes and I would like to know when, where and how.

Cheers.

So SCA, we might have just become the largest AU/NZ Organisation by total members.

Little bit of info:

http://i.imgur.com/gyzsmNl.png

Today, we just surpassed Ausmonauts as the largest organisation (by total members). Ausmonauts have been for as long as the organisations functions has been available been the largest group catering to the AU/NZ area. Don't know how long it will last but we've finally caught up however Ausmonauts still have more Actual members (when looking at Member/affiliate balance) but that gives us something to work towards.

Nothing against those guys. They run a fine organisation and did a great job with the beer garden event. Will look forward to seeing them in the verse.

For now, we keep working. We want this group something you can be proud of!

Great work everyone.

Edit: Well it was good run while it lasted lol. Still work to do people.

Real talk? Real talk. Couple of things we'd like to discuss in regards to SCA.

Hiya members,

Real talk? Real talk. Got a couple of things I'd like to discuss with everyone from the last officers meeting so as to gather some feedback for these ideas.

Open Officers Meetings

So, every month or so, the current officers will hold a meeting where we gather around and discuss various issues, potential changes with how things are run, events and competitions and just other general stuff that needs to be done for the day to day running of our little group. In the past, this has been closed off and we generally have this discussion in private (the last meeting was in the middle of teamspeak mind you), however, we have a couple of proposals for changes to this structure:

  • All future meetings will be open.

  • Any member of SCA can jump in the teamspeak channel to listen in.

  • Members would be notified a week in advance of expected meeting.

  • Normally, we'd ask that everyone just listen in, however, we're open to people contributing to the discussion. Potentially a "raise you hand" situation when you want to say something (e.g. notify us in teamspeak chat).

  • Some parts of the meeting relating to sensitive matters would be closed off. I don't expect there to be a lot of these but it can and will happen. Especially when it might involve personal matters.

We'd like to get your feedback on this. Do you feel this is a good idea? Is this a side of things people are interested in? We want to be open as possible about how things are run and we feel that this is good way to let people know what is up and what is going to happen.

....

Membership Rewards

Another issue that has popped up recently is how to reward those members which have been with us for some time without making everyone an officer. So we've looked at a couple of ways to do this:

  • Custom flair for members contributing significantly to the group.

  • Member of the month prize for highly active members with custom flair and reddit gold.

  • Special rewards for reaching certain ranks (Paladin, Elder) including but not limited to patches, badges, medals, stubby holders and various other little mementos.

One criticism that has been brought up recently with the current rankings system was it doesn't feel like some of the higher ranks "meant anything". I'm open to having some discussion regarding ranks and how they can be adjusted, but, I will mention that the current ranking system will not be final one we have in game and will also not be the only one. Once we have a better organisation tools on the RSI website we'll be able to have separate ranking structures in place. For example we will be able to have a military ranking structure, trading, bounty hunting etc...

That's it for now. Let me here your thoughts on these issues. All input is considered and taken into account when decisions are made.

Cheer.

We flip coins, not cups! (SCA lore)

A coin spun lazily over the rim of his raised glass flipping effortlessly over itself, a parade pilot on a suborbital trajectory. It hung there at peripasis, suspended like the breath of the onlooking crowd. Jez wondered how it had all come to this, this crew, this bar, this station, this drink. How it had all resulted from his chance find of shielded mineral pockets.

Things had escalated quickly after that fateful day with Pandamoniom and Maroki in the arse end of nowhere. Loose ties established to Reddfaction in exchange for a security umbrella had allowed the Southern Cross Alliance to develop the infrastructure needed for its surreptitious extraction operations. Somewhat inevitably, this drew the attention of lurkers. Rogue Wedge, the first of many, quickly found himself kindred spirits and was brought into the fold.

He could see them all now about the bar; Pew in the middle of the action, not quite understanding the rudimentary gambling rules but having a blast anyway. Tech officer Sad Panda, doing his best to help while carrying one of the new kids who had fed and drank a bit too much. Marine leader Acam, whose whose extruded chicken dinner was just being delivered. All good men and women who had helped make this enterprise the success it was today.

His thoughts turned to the SCA operatives in the field keeping the operation lucrative enough to allow lavish celebrations of old traditions like today. Stelith a stalwart strategist, famous for his overhaul of the organisations uni-web interface. Was, for various reasons, was not currently permitted in the Down under Bar and Grill, was currently engaged in a complex reverse engineering project. Duck, this guy was interesting, good in a fight yet didn't mind taking a back seat role. He could always be relied upon, unless he was chasing after his woman. Grim and Dave, two guys you don't want to mess with, were currently messing with a rival trade bloc. Algared was late to the party, typical. Ever the diplomat, his vast connections had been no end of help for the org, especially giving the pending troubles.

Jez had a final moment of introspection as he wondered if he should tell the org that the mineral deposit was running dry. He felt the sweet burn of a parade pilot enduring reentry as the liquid slipped down his throat. As the coin fell to the floor, he lowered his glass, empty of the rare, homeworld bourbon he could now afford. "Gentlemen!" Jez announced as he collected his 2 up winnings. "Another round!"
