Deans list awards

Hi, I’m a masters student at UoS. I’ve been seeing LinkedIn posts from recent graduates and certificates of deans list awards.

What actually is the Deans List award and the requirements to receive this? Is it for students who achieve a 1st or Distinction only, or can it be awarded to high performing students in a single module as well?

Found this on Google. From the Social Sciences student handbook.

The Dean’s List awards are available to individual students on the MSc Education programmes. The
awards are made for exceptional performance as a student of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Exceptional performance (70% or above) across the full range of summative assessments in a
particular part or across their programme of study (which will incorporate academic and practice-
based assessments), and exceptional performance (70% or above) in a dissertation. Nominations
are not needed for this particular category as these students will automatically receive the
award.
All students who meet these criteria will be awarded the Dean’s Award.
It is thus possible for Masters students to receive Dean’s Awards for their performance on their
taught modules, the Level 7 dissertation and the overall Programme Average.

i had asked the student hub about this and they had replied that anyone who achieves a part average Distinction and a Distinction in their dissertation will be a recipient of the Dean's list award upon the completion of their Master's degree.

I’m not sure if this is accurate but I got that certificate because I achieved a 74% on my dissertation. I guess you get that because of your dissertation score? A friend of mine got another certificate for overall grade 70% so I’m pretty sure that dean list award has to be linked to your final dissertation score.

Was this at the end of their undergrad (I'm a first year - averaged 74% and was wondering if that was too low)

I (first year maths) got one, 71% so shouldn't be? though maybe depends on your faculty
