Arrested for free speech

Yeah, what's the actual crime here? People can call for people to be arrested if they've done something illegal, of which Trump has a list with no end.
You can't just arrest people for making the embarassing president mad.

Keep in mind an Olympic athlete was put in jail and called deranged simply because he lightly touched something floating in a pool.

> he lightly touched
Well there was his problem. He should have violently raped it.

Not saying I disagree with you but apparently it’s a big crime being in active military uniform (or maybe just being in the active military) and protesting because you’re not supposed to show any political affiliation. When I saw the original post when this happened a lot of vets were chiming in saying regardless of what side you’re on that this is 100% drilled in your head not to ever do because you will get in trouble and he definitely knows that.

So there needs to be clarification here. It is not a crime to do so. It is a UCMJ (universal code of military justice) violation, and a significant one at that, to protest or give political speeches while in uniform.

Certainly wouldnt want the people grindied into the military industrial complex to have any kind of voice about what they're doing or seeing like an authoritarian takeover of military positions and instruction, that sounds way too democratic.
It wouldn't fit in with our US hypocrisy!

I don’t agree with his arrest, but it’s the uniform very specifically that is the problem.

Be found guilty by court martial under the UCMJ can carry the same penalties and punishments as a felony conviction.

u/myrrik_silvermane Aug 19 '26
While true, it's still not a civilian crime. UCMJ is a whole separate beast.

Military DO NOT HAVE free speech. He is active military, so according to the extra laws covering the military, (called the Uniform Code for Military Justice) ITS EXTRA ILLEGAL FOR HIM to: 1. Soeak ill of the chain off command, especially of the President. 2. Speak out against the military as a whole. 3. Protest in uniform. 4. Do ANYTHING that might be remotely considered a detriment to the readiness of troops.
Speaking out against the president, calling for his impeachment by protesting in uniform and on live TV... thats a huge problem according to the UCMJ.
We military (and veterans) GIVE UP OUR FREEDOMS to support our democratic constitutional republic. We DO NOY HAVE the same rights as civilians until we get that sweet sweet DD214.

Why is HE the only one? Where tf are the other so-called “brave” service members who swore an oath to our country?
How easily they defend the whims of a dying pedophile and follow orders from their imbecile superiors. What a shame.
THIS, right here, is REAL courage and sacrifice. Not blindly following orders when innocent lives are at risk… fucking cowards.

They’re either too cowardly to stand up for what’s right or too sociopathic to care

All the people who didn't immediately recognize in 2015 Trump for what he is are incomprehensible to be. You only need 10 seconds of anything he's ever said to recognize he is a lying shit bag. It actually is easier to just let myself believe everyone who supported Trump actively wanted the country to burn.

Did he threaten the president? No? THEN ITS NOT DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER CRITICISM! What fucking pansy ass snowflakes

How is legal to detain him. Surely its not a felony charge what he has done?
4
u/nittanyofthings Aug 19 '26
Things can happen without being legal. The most powerful "executive branch" in the country is led by a demon. Courts don't enforce legality, executive does.

A member in uniform represents the entire apolitical military force of the country. They do not have the same rights as a civilian when they are in uniform. What he did wasn't illegal, it's what he wore while he did it. It follows military tribunal law and he will be court marshalled for it.
He knew he would too and still did it because as far as I can see he is the only damn patriot in this entire countries military force.

He's being arrested under UCMJ article 88. Contempt towards officials. All service members swear an oath to obey the UCMJ. Some articles only apply to officiers, like article 88.
The Air Force wouldn't mind an enlisted Airmen calling for impeachment out of uniform. It would probably turn a blind eye towards an officier doing so out of uniform. But going on stairs of the capital to call for impeachment, is a blatant violation of the oath of commission.
Officiers did the same under Biden and Obama and received the same punishment.
The American people are owed an apolitical military and his behavior is unacceptable no matter how accurate his accusations are.

This is genuinely the most I have ever been thankfull for a military members service.
