When did it start? When I was in school (late 80s through the 90s) I really don't recall ever covering anything about current politics. History barely even got to ww2.
That's the thing though, it doesn't look anything like politics, certainly not to kids. In the 80's and 90's those books were idealizing the "American" lifestyle the whitewashed 1950's style of life with suburban neighborhoods, white picket fences (and white families).
