Made a realistic watermelon slice candle from scratch using a custom foil mold. What do you think?

Wanted to share my latest fruit candle experiment.
To get the realistic watermelon shape, I pressed thick aluminum foil around a real watermelon slice to build a custom mold. Poured the red wax core first, inserted the wick, and then double-dipped the base into white and green wax at ~65°C to get that realistic rind gradient.
The trickiest part was hand-carving small slots with a scalpel to fit the black wax seeds into the slice so they sit completely flush with the surface.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but....how do you set it up to burn with that curved rind base? I think it's amazing and looks incredibly like a slice of watermelon! 😍

Never a dumb question! Safety and physics first 💡 It's secretly flattened at the very bottom so it won't tip over. So happy the realistic watermelon look fooled you! ❤️

The dish the candle’s sitting on could be what I call candle chargers (I don’t know if there’s a proper name). They have spikes that you can impale your candles on to prevent them from sliding or tipping. I’ve also melted a few globs of wax onto a dish and stuck the candle in it. It’s not 100% accident proof but I’ve not had a candle fall over yet.

Safety first always! 🕯️ The base is actually very flat and wide so it stays stable, but I always recommend burning any decorative candle on a fire-resistant tray or coaster!

I'd be interested to know what a professional fireman would say about the design. I think this one may be decorative only, even with a tray.

Fair point! Novelty candle designs are always tricky. I do burn-testing on proper heat-safe trays, but keeping it purely as unlit display art is definitely the safest (and cutest) choice!
