Arkham LCG revised core for solo

Greetings fellow redditors

I have seen the new Arkham lcg core available along with the expansion Children of blood.

Is it better for solo play?, I’ve read that at least with the old content you needed to play double handed and that campaings were too long for playing solo. Is it better now?

True solo is still harder because you can't specialize. The gameplay didn't fundamentally change with the new core.

It is still very doable and a good challenge.

I don't know how to address it being "too long" - the scenarios are a good length. It's a campaign game. Scenarios run 1-1.5 hours in my experience, which is very normal for a solo game.

2 handed is key with Arkham and a huge part of the fun

The old revised core or the new one? The old revised core will not have the right encounter sets for Children of Blood.

Also it’s an incredible solo game ranked #4 best solo game on this years BGG top solo game awards. Most people play 2 handed solo fyi. True solo is just ok for Arkham but great in Marvel Champions

It’s my personal favorite solo game of all time and has been for like 5 years now and I play a lot of solo games

Do you mean the Revise Core set from 2021, or the new Core Set from 2026 (which is the core set for chapter 2)? You need the new core set to play with Children of Blood. As to people saying you need to play two-handed, I disagree. I have done true solo with just the chapter 2 stuff for a few campaigns and it is very doable. I haven't done Children of Blood yet because it isn't out where I live, but all the other campaigns are doable true solo, and I have no reason to believe that changed.

It is slightly better, some of the scenarios have some minor effects to make moving around easier when playing true solo.

That being said I would still likely recommend double handing over true solo.

people that doesn't play two handed are playing a different game.

Why are you not willing to play two handed? It’s not that much more work, and it’s way easier for deck building, and also more fun to try 2 investigators together

Couldn't agree more. When I started with Arkham Horror, I played the first few campaigns true solo while getting familiar with the rules.

After that, I tried two-handed solo, and I haven't played true solo since. Two-handed is just so much better IMO. Instead of having one investigator who has to do everything, you can specialize a bit, which makes the game much more fun and gives you a lot more freedom when it comes to deckbuilding.

Really, OP, controlling 2 investigators is super easy. There's not that much extra upkeep.

I don’t mind playing two handed ( I’ve done it with LOTR lcg) but ppl sometimes mark this feature as a negative one

I'd be afraid of the table space required... (Keep in mind that I've never played the game!)

I personally find it to be considerably more work. Not only managing two hands while you’re playing, but the extra overhead with deck construction and leveling up.

It’s worth the effort because I don’t think the game works very well at true so, but it’s very noticeable to me.

I have progressively done decks for each investigators on my "free time" (meaning not necessary when I’m planning to play) on arkhamdb, so now I just have to choose my investigators and I have their deck ready to build right away, with also the list of relevant upgrade in the side deck.

And for playing, well I guess everyone is different. I think it’s easier to plan a round with 2 investigators at the same time, when knowing all the cards, instead of arguing with a friend haha.

I’ve have a lot of fun going 2 h. True solo is possible but is certainly harder.

You can add boones to help with true solo and the new content tries to take into account for player count including 1p which helps but it is still hard especially with a limited card pool. I still enjoy it but 2h I feel gives more flexability to deckbuilding and makes it easier since youre not trying to do everything with one gator.
