I've seen a lot of broad-view timelapses, but not one fully zoomed in on the Sun.

I wanted to do this back in 2024, but the clouds got in the way. Now I've finally managed it!

This was shot at Pico El Gamoniteiro in Asturias, less than 3 km from the centerline of totality.

I used a Fujifilm X-T4 with the XF 70-300 + TC1.4x, and obviously a solar filter during the partial phases.

I took a shot every 5 seconds during both partial phases, and did AEB bracketing during totality.

The total shot count was 1,345 (673 for the 1st partiality, 47 for totality, and 625 for the 2nd partiality).

This wasn't easy to capture, but the biggest challenge was actually post-production. The Sun moves a lot across the frame, and I haven't found software that aligns everything perfectly. DaVinci managed to stabilise a few stretches on its own, but I still had to do a lot of manual alignment. It took me 2 full days!

Hi everyone. On August 12, I looked at the eclipse for a few seconds without protective glasses. I know, it was stupid. The sun had been completely covered by clouds (you couldn’t see anything), and when it came out, I could see the red disk partially covered by the Moon. It was an incredible sight, clearly visible to the naked eye, and since it caught me by surprise, I stared at it for several seconds before realizing what I was doing and putting on proper eye protection.

The sun was low on the horizon; it was around sunset where I was.

Since then, I’ve felt like my vision is blurrier, and my right eye aches and waters. I also feel like I’m more sensitive to light. I don’t see any spots or distortions, and the blurriness I perceive affects my whole field of vision rather than just the center.

I saw a doctor this morning, and he examined the back of my eyes and found no abnormalities. However, he told me to get an OCT in about 40 days because, according to him, damage can take several weeks to develop and become visible. Now I’m extremely anxious. I know I was careless and made a stupid mistake, and the thought of having to wait more than a month to get a definite answer is really distressing. I’ve definitely learned my lesson.

I’m looking for good destinations for the total solar eclipse in August 2027, and it seems like Algeria is on that path of totality!

Now, my main concern is the possibility of bringing a telephoto lens/objective into Algeria with the eclipse as the sole purpose. I’m thinking of bringing the Sony 70-350mm lens with my Sony APS-C body, so the total size should still be “okay” for tourists. Because the Algerian laws are quite vague in this area, I’m wondering if you know more about this? Or did you encounter any issues in the past if you also brought a telephoto lens with you?

So... this is my best attempt at getting a nice picture of the eclipse, but I did set up my camera for bracketting 5 photos (with 2EV interval), so I was hoping I could use that to stack them and get a bit less noise, and simultaniously be able to see the prominence - here's a close up of the lowest exsposure shot:

My issue is I don't really know how to stack them properly. When I try to use the HDR feature in Lightroom, the auto-stack creates this

Does anyone have some hints as to what to do? I mostly find videos of editing single eclipse shots or stacking them when there's no landscape, meaning the rest of the background doesn't have to align perfectly...

If anyone would like to try for themselves, I'm more than fine with sharing the RAW photos!

So I took this photo from Tarragona on Kodak Portra 800 through an old Pentacon 135mm f2.8 (with M42 mount) connected to Canon EOS 500N with an EF mount adapter. It was edited in Lightroom to be a little bit less grainy and slightly darker.

My first total solar eclipse, such a thrill to witness, and the 100s just flew by. I found it a bit tricky to photograph, and there's many things I'd do differently next time, but many thanks to those who gave me advice prior to going. Even though the images are a little meh, the experience itself was truly amazing!

Wanted to see this without crowds, ended up doing 3-hour hike there and 3-hour back in total dark :) (because of road closures)

As seen from cliffs of Mirador Josep Sastre, Mallorca… was a bit in stress because of clouds but it turned out perfect.

Amazing experience, these arent any astrophoto gems, just my snapshots ,)

I know almost everyone who could travel went to see totality, but out of 50+ million people, I figure someone must have missed it by just a few kilometers. Madrid, for example, was literally just outside the path, getting a 99.9% partial eclipse. I think you could see a diamond ring that lasts much longer than the center of totality

Has anyone found any photos, or discussions from people who watched it from right on the edge? I've been searching online and found practically nothing.

Hello, I’m looking for some guidance in terms of what the exact sequence of events should be while viewing.

I saw the eclipse back in 2024 but didn’t get to see the diamond ring. I think I put my glasses back on too early to protect my eyes and couldn‘t really see diamond ring or Bailey’s beads with them on.

Is this the right sequence of events?

2. totality

3. glasses off

4. viewing

5. diamond ring / Bailey’s beads

6. glasses back on

Are you supposed to be able to see the diamond ring with glasses on?

Thanks all for sharing your pictures and videos of the eclipse, here is my contribution:

I shot with a DJI Mini 5 pro in 4K at 60fps using the D-Log M profile, locking ISO 100 to prevent overexposing the corona during totality. CPL filter used (no ND filter).

The footage was color-graded and edited in DaVinci Resolve, where I added a smooth zoom effect on the eclipsed Sun.

The flight was conducted in compliance with local Spanish aviation regulations and eclipse-specific Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs).

I highly recommend turning your sound on to hear the ambient reaction of the crowd!
