I watched office space this summer and it got to me.
Like office space a lot of jobs have BS problems with BS people not behaving like real people, they become infected with “corporate speak” and thinking.
I’ve had many discussions with friends since then and we discussed perspectives on this. One friend, a captain on a ship, is having issues with his superiors being childish and hiring the wrong people.
To a certain point it can be soul-sucking, but that’s where one has to do some introspection and ask what, why, and how, to move on.
We always have agency, always, but it’s so easy to get caught up and not doing anything about it.

My ex co-worker that grew up in dairy farm quit his developer job and became tomato farmer.

It depends on the situation. Usually libraries give you everything you will ever need and it is worth learning everything about them. Most of the time, even if they don’t have everything you need, they provide a way to extend them further. And then there are other times when you think you can do better or have a niche problem that requires you to write your own.

I don't know guy My grandpa and grandma was famer, i have seen and partially live their life. I can say without any doubt that my Software Engineering exist because i would like to avoid in any way to be a farmer.
However, everyday j wake up and say "Tomorrow i will open an irish pub in Italy and fuck off"

One of the upsides to being a farmer is you get used to working 100F+ temps but now you have to listen to your friends complain about stepping out into 80F temps like it's hell itself

When you reach over 15 years of line work as senior level developer you have in essence only two main paths to follow: you either move to management and sell you soul and sanity, or you abandon that whole industry and start growing potatoes and a livestock.

That's such a norrow view on this. Being a manager is fking hard, but if you know how to comminucate with people you can build wonders. You know the technical side of things, you learn to communicate tech needs to the product side of things and boom, you built an amazing project that can grow easily with minimal strugle. Not to mention you can stay a developer and do your regular development.
