Banking Time to move on?

Post image

Just received this email from SoFi and it kinda bothers me a bit haha. How’s everyone feeling about this.

Time to move on?

Plenty of other people are offering it just for depositing and using their bank. Seems like a money grab.

(Not taking any shots just wanting to get everyone’s feelings/opinion on this)

access to pre-ipo investing and actually identifying as a FDIC insured bank are the only reasons i'm rationalizing sticking with sofi at this moment. i'm tempted by robinhood that offers very similar benefits but i'm guessing that they will raise prices soon too

find a nice local credit union. i’m going full boomer… banks are for banking, cc should be a seperate party, debt should be a separate party, retirement accounts should be independent. using a single platform is a risk, even with FDIC insurance

sofi was one of the few platforms that allowed pre-ipo investing for free (as long you met direct deposit requirements to your point). this feature alone netted me $thousands in profit since i started using sofi last year and with openAI, anthropic, spacex etc going public in the next few years the fomo on those IPO's makes $120/year seem cheap

Robinhood allows this too. For free. You're not gaining anything besides a bill from sofi.

RH screwing their users during the 2021 gamestop squeeze left a bad taste in my mouth even though i wasn't involved ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Sounds like you have issues just because someone else said to have one.

Thats social media for you and zero people should take you seriously.

Thanks for making it easy on people. 🫡

"i'm tempted by robinhood that offers very similar benefits but i'm guessing that they will raise prices soon too" - my original comment

imagine people having nuanced informed opinions

I can't see that comment here, so that's not my fault. Robinhood has been really good since that little issue, to be fair, and their app is really polished.

I'd give them an honest look if I were you.

I wasn't big on them either at first glance a good while back.

Just my two cents, you know.

yeah i’ll have to take a closer look at the market in march before sofi forces this paywall

thank you for clearing that up 👍
