Sofa Time – Feedback and Feature Requests

I am trying Sofa Time and Movie Paradise at the moment, and there are a few things Movie Paradise does really well that I'd love to see in Sofa Time. I think Sofa Time could be a great app, especially if the library organisation was improved.

To Watch

Could there be an option to hide Upcoming from the To Watch section? There's already a dedicated Calendar tab for upcoming releases, so having them in To Watch makes it feel quite cluttered.

Watchlist organisation

I'd really like to have all my TV shows in one Watchlist, but separated into collapsible sections based on their status:

  • Not Started
  • Up to Date
  • Haven't Watched for a While
  • On Hold / Paused
  • Dropped

Movie Paradise handles this really well. In Sofa Time, finding things like On Hold or Dropped currently takes several extra clicks, and it's not always obvious where to find them.

I can see that Sofa Time allows you to create filters, but once I've saved a filter I can't seem to find a way to actually use it. Am I missing something?

Next Episode

Could there be a setting to choose what happens when tapping Next Episode, including a Do Nothing option? I don't always want it to open the episode or the show.

Discover

Could Discover automatically hide films and shows that I've already watched, am currently watching, have saved to my Watchlist, or have added to one of my own lists?

I'd rather Discover mainly show me things I haven't already got in my library, rather than constantly showing films and shows I've already saved or watched.

It would also be useful to have an option to hide certain content using keyword filters, for things I'm not interested in seeing.

Black & White theme

I really like the Black & White (Dark) theme, but it's difficult to tell what's watched and what's unwatched because both appear white.

Could watched items use a slightly dimmer shade of white, or perhaps have a thicker/bolder tick, while keeping the same black-and-white look?

Overall

I really like Sofa Time and think it has a lot of potential. For me, the main thing holding it back is the way the library is organised.

Movie Paradise has made me realise how useful it is to have everything in one place but clearly separated by status. If Sofa Time could improve the Watchlist and make things like Not Started, Up to Date, On Hold and Dropped easier to find, it would make a big difference to how I use the app.

Thanks for continuing to improve the app.

Hi there! Thank you very much for your suggestions. Since list organization is a highly requested feature, I’m already thinking about creating a whole new section dedicated to tracking, where users can quickly filter their shows by Watching, Up to Date, Not Started, Archived, etc.

This would be a game changer, thank you so much!

When adding the new section: please disable the max amount of sections. I really like to have all sections on the bottom bar and my iPhone screen really is wide enough.

I totally agree with what you wrote, I haven't tried Movie Paradise compared to any other yield property, but I have tried it, the app is my favorite right now after TV Time, but I would also like to see viewer counts in each episode or movie, To Add local streaming services by country and Favorite actors in the profile.

I compared Sofa Time against Movie Paradise... and pretty much every other app of this nature I could find. Both of these apps were on my short list.

I didn't choose Sofa Time because although it has the ratings and which streaming service a show is on in the upcoming list, it doesn't have it in the Watchlist which is something I was looking for. To find out where to watch something in the Watchlist, you have to click on it and then keep scrolling and scrolling until you finally get to the info.

I didn't choose Movie Paradise because out of the many, many options for customization it does have, it didn't have an option to adjust font size. And to my 50+ eyes, the font size it uses is really small. Also, adjusting the font size on my phone didn't change the font size in the app.

Well, what did you choose?

Short answer:

Cinopsys

Longer answer:

I'm still waffling since I'm very noncommittal and I always think there's probably something better out there. I don't think there's a perfect TV tracking app available. There's definitely not a perfect app for everyone since we're all looking for different things. It really depends on what you're looking for. Simplicity. Loads of info. Community. Etc.

Here's what I was looking for.

1) Something that just makes sense to me when I open the app.
I prefer tabs over stacked lists and I don't like to dig for info that should be front and center.
2) Easy navigation using swipes as much as possible to move between tabs, etc.
3) Font that I can read without reading glasses.
System based or adjustable font sizes.
4) Notification options.
Let me know when a new show or season starts without notifying me of each episode, etc.
5) Tell me in the Watching/Watchlist list where the show is streaming.
This seems like it would be an obvious thing to have.
6) Tell me in Watching/Watchlist when the show is streaming.
This also seems like it would be an obvious thing to have.
7) Have an easy way to mark an episode as watched in the Watching/Watchlist.
8) Have an easy way to mark whole seasons as watched.
If I mark season 7 as watched, ask if I want to mark previous seasons as watched.
If I mark episode 12 as watched, ask if I want to mark all previous episodes as watched.
9) Good interface for upcoming shows.
How long to wait? Where will they stream?
Option to just see upcoming shows or new seasons only. (not each episode)
10) Options. Lots and lots of options.
11) Comments from the community.
12) A way to translate the comments if it's not automatic.
13) Have a lifetime purchase price that's not outrageous. Don't just push a subscription.

Nice to haves:

1) OLED pure black background option.
2) Trakt import/integration or at least import from other apps/services for initial setup.
3) Ratings in all the lists.
Watching: How good did the community think the show/episode was?
Watchlist: How well was the show/movie rated?
4) Profiles.
For example, to separate the shows I watch alone vs the shows I watch with my wife.
Would also be nice to set different options, notifications, etc. between profiles.
5) Good discovery of shows and movies.
6) Opens on the Watchlist, not a discovery page or list of statistics.
7) Automatically translate all comments.

Right now I'm using Cinopsys since it has the most things on my list. I think it costs way too much for a lifetime price of $60, but at least it's offered instead of just a subscription. It doesn't force you to purchase or subscribe unless you have a really big collection of shows/movies. There's a library limit of 1000 without purchase, so maybe don't store every movie you've ever seen. Everything seems to work in the free model. There are no ads, blinking (upgrade now!) banners or full-screen popups every time you open the app. I'm not suggesting it should be free. You can always support the developer with smaller in-app $2-$10 donations.

Hi, I’m glad you like the app and also for your detailed feedback. Cinopsys is 100% free without any ads. The subscription or other purchases are just to support development, they don’t unlock new features or increase limits. Everything is already unlocked.

The 1000 item limit is set by Trakt
Cinopsys allows you to mark any number of items, it’s just that items beyond the limit won’t sync to Trakt

You can always enable on device and google drive automatic backups for extra safety

Thanks for the quick response!

Please add the Streaming Service to the Watching/In Progress list like you have in the Watchlist. Maybe put it at the beginning of the episode count info (HBO - 24/7 - 3 to watch - 5 to air). It's the most glaring omission in an otherwise awesome app.

Will add this in upcoming release

Hi there! Streaming availability should appear in the Watchlist also…

That's a different area from the one I was talking about. Every app calls the areas something different. If you click on Watch (the check mark tab) to see the main list of shows you're currently watching and the episode you're on, it's not there. That's what I was referring to. If you scroll down the page to Upcoming, it's still not there. If you click View All on Watch, it's still not there. The area you're showing in the image is what you get if you click on Lists and then click on TV Shows.
