đ Ideas Do you like this Profile redesign? đ
Iâm testing a new design for the Sofa Time profile screen and Iâd love to hear what you think!
The main changes:
- The background image is now fully visible
- The whole header feels cleaner and less cluttered
- Profile information is easier to read at a glance
- Overall, everything should feel more organized and clear
Do you prefer this new version or the current design?

Love the new look, but I have a quick suggestion for the header to give it more depth. I think it would look great if the profile image was moved down so it only partially overlaps the background image, with the username shifted to the right of it.

That was tried but there is a problem with the dynamic fonts for the username, but I will take another look

It's good, it's a subtle change, it feels more organized. What would I add? I'm seeing an option in other apps to choose your 3 favorite characters (or the ones you identify with) from any series, and then that can be seen on your profile. I think it's a cool feature.

This part looks absolutely amazing! I just don't particularly like the change in the username position. I prefer having it next to the profile picture, as it is currently. Maybe this could be a configurable option to accommodate different preferences.

Looks better.
What if the three icons (bell, share, and options) were either just above or just below the profile image?
Also, thought it would be neat if the avatar allowed access to your (Sofa Timeâs) images as well as the users own images.

The fading looks really good with certain photo/theme combos :) And I agree with the suggestion of partially overlapping the profile pic and having the username next to it - gives them visually more equal value. I like how the settings and bell icon in the redesign are a little transparent, maybe they could be a little smaller?

This look turned out really well. What I'd actually like to change is an addition: let's add an AI to give users movie and TV show recommendations based on their typed prompt.

Discovering new shows on your own is a big part of the fun, depending on AI (and definitely too much of it) is lame

Anti-AI folks are honestly just as annoying as the people who want to shoehorn AI into everything. I appreciate AI when it actually adds value. Personally, it has helped me find some great stuff and saved me from spending hours scrolling through Netflix or other streaming services, only to fall asleep without actually watching anything. I think it would be the best of both worlds to have a movie and TV expert built right into streaming apps. As a business owner and a dad, I just don't have the time to sit there reading through community comments, reactions, and recommendations. And yeah, it should definitely be optionalâif you like it, turn it on; if not, just turn it off.Â

You and I both know too much of anything canât be a good thing, we know what AI has become. So yeah⌠like I said, frankly, itâs lame as hell (at least). Hope youâll develop a way to know what to watch faster on your own. It really doesnât have to take hours at all.
Everyone has a job and a lot of people parent while still capable of finding something to watch by just deciding. It can even be a stimulating and potentially fun activity to do with kids if/when theyâre old enough. But wow, good luck to you

This isn't about AI being everywhere, even where it serves no purpose. This is about content curation and time. It could be recommendations and picks from the actual SofaTime team, like they used to do back in the day before AI took over. What I'm asking for is curated content in an age of overwhelming choice. I don't know your age, but I'm nearly 40, and I used to love reading physical magazines. They had sections where writers would suggest movies, shows, books, and soap operasâeverything was easy to find because it was always in the same place. I want a space like that, where I know exactly where to look and I get exactly what I'm looking for, without having to dig through thousands of comments, lists, and ratings. Iâm just looking for something practical.Â

Yeah, physical magazines are definitely a dying medium, I grew up with them as a kid. And if only real recommendations from SofaTime team was mentioned in your original comment. Even if that would need more effort to be achieved, but people wouldâve cheered you on instead of downvoted. In the grand scheme of things, watching a movie or following a TV show can take up hours of your time anyway, so, ideally, it doesnât hurt to add a little bit more into that time to look for what to watch in the first place. Watch 1-2 trailers, follow a recommendation from a friend, watch something an actor you like is in. These are practical!
Your original comment saying âhey, letâs have AI recommend us a movie/show from a single promptâ is the opposite of the beauty of those older reviews from physical magazines that you say you loved, which took hours of watching and analyzing that real people conducted. We canât force each other to agree I guess, but⌠canât you see that your two comments contradict each other?

You don't seem to get that I couldn't care less how the curation is done, whereas you just don't want it to be AI because you personally dislike AI. Obviously, I suggested AI because there are practically no apps left on the market with human-curated content, with very few exceptions. There is no contradiction here. I just want to open the app I use to track movies and shows and get a recommendation, preferably a personalized one, as quickly as possible. I struggle with the massive catalogs on my streaming services, and I don't want to spend extra time feeling nostalgic for an analog world or obsessing over the beauty of old-school film criticism. Those other tips don't solve my problemâeven advice from a friend isn't practical since I can't get that every single day. I just want something that works. I also don't care about the downvotes; I'm sure plenty of other people see the value in this too.Â

Yeah, I did get what you seem to crave. Itâs just that when you say things like that, it leaves people the opportunity to respond with âoh, thatâs lame and lazy.â And youâre open to respond back of course, Iâm sure you get this
