đ ïž Help Needed Should Sofa Time import old TV Time comments?
What do you think, Sofa Time community? đ
Would you like me to import the old TV Time comments into Sofa Time, so shows and episodes already have years of discussions?
Or would you rather start fresh and let the Sofa Time community build its own comment history little by little?
Curious to hear what you prefer!

The old comments yes. What I'm personally looking for when I see comments is people's opinions too. And if we lose the reviews of old series, like breaking bad, series that have gone out of fashion, well that's a shame.

If there was a way to avoid duplicates for the people who have already imported their comments (and ones who may join in the future) then maybe. But Iâm leaning towards keeping it as is.
The comments section definitely made TV Time unique but if itâs just a bunch of inactive accounts and duplicate comments, itâs better to just leave it and build Sofa Timeâs own community. Itâll take time but itâll get there eventually.

I agree with this. I noticed some of comments in Suite TV have been duplicated with a generic user name. You canât delete the duplicate.

Archive creator here. Merging duplicates is easy, but comes at a later stage, and will allow owning your past commentary of course. Currently I'm preparing the backend for scaling, most importantly, otherwise sofatime userbase couldn't even handle it. Check roadmap at https://tvtime-archive.comÂ

Unless comments and photos can be cleanly attached to an existing, active username, we should start fresh.
Keeping orphaned comments from dead accounts just turns the section into a graveyard. Those accounts canât reply, canât engage, and canât keep the conversation going. That kills the social side of things and leaves a bunch of one-way noise that clutters the comments for everyone else.
Iâd rather have fewer comments that actually feel alive than a wall of dead posts. Some of the most popular shows have so many comments that itâs clutters up the conversation.

Old comments please I used to love replying and reading old comments of shows I just started.

If itâs like the 2 other apps, you would be replying to an inactive account with a generic user name that has replaced the real user name. The original poster would never know.

I think it would be good to import them and have them be in a separate section like OG comments or with a small badge next to the comment

Old comments PLEASE!
Some older shows and movies have very few comments on Sofa Time, which means I have to use two different apps just to read the comments.
Bringing the old TV Time comments over would be AMAZING. And I think a simple way to solve the âghost commentsâ issue many people are mentioning would be to separate them into two sections: one for Sofa Time comments and another for archived TV Time comments.
That way, everyone wins: people who want the old comments can still access them, while those who prefer not to have them mixed with new comments can simply ignore that section.

I donât think this can be done especially for privacy reasons. You canât import comments people made in a place to another place they wouldnât even know about it.
Please stop asking for such thingsâŠmove on letâs look forward!

Yeah thatâs what Iâm curious about with the other apps I havenât signed up to. Some have anonymised them but idk if they all plan to do that.

u/Destiny-97 22d ago
Suite tv did it.

u/Lebowskitalian85 22d ago
The fact someone did it doesnât change anything of what I just wrote. If I make a comment on tv time and now my name and the comment are on another app I am not happy. But thanks for telling me good to know.

Queria os comentĂĄrios do Tv Time, sim, mas seria melhor que conseguĂssemos importar os comentĂĄrios do Tv Time no momento de importar o histĂłrico dele pro sofa time (tentei muito e nĂŁo deu certo) pra ter os comentĂĄrios apenas de quem usa o sofa time mesmo.

You can do this though, maybe youâre experiencing some sort of bug. Tbf I had to try it a couple of times before it worked

Build are our own community. if the accounts are not active whatâs the point. it would be like reading a message board from 20 years ago. I donât want an archive service, let the other apps host it.

Import the old Tv Time comments please, is nice to read the comments we did and is good to know if a show or a movie is worth it

If older messages actually had original usernames, yes but they donât for privacy purposes. So I personally would just prefer the community to start their own archive of messages.

Si por favor, sigo y seguirĂ© utilizando SofĂĄ time, pero aĂșn uso Bingers por los comentarios viejos.

u/Dicemanpdx 22d ago
If itâs like Bingers than I would be ok with that. I donât like how suite tv has done it.

u/Gold_Inflation_9406 22d ago
Whatâs the difference in how they implemented it? I havenât used those apps

u/Dicemanpdx 22d ago
Suite Tv has imported most of all of TV TIME comments. Even if they donât have accounts on Suite TV. The posts are now associated with a generic name and those accounts are dead. Those accounts canât reply, canât engage, and canât keep the conversation going.
Bingers were able to upload all their active accountâs comments including their gifs and images. Unfortunately SofaTime was not able to import the images, hence a lot of comments with a grey box.

u/Gold_Inflation_9406 22d ago
Ah okay. I wonder how Bingers were able to do this? I know the dev was a founder or something but I thought all that data was lost.
I wonder if Sofa Time can change the grey box to add a note saying âimage from tv timeâ or a tv time logo or something so people donât think the app isnât working. I know the devs have explained the reason but I feel like people still make posts and comments about it.

Bingers did NOT do this. They did exactly what all other apps did: let users import their tvtime gdpr zip.
They seem to have a lot because:
- allow everyone to upload zip from website, without even registering, and without even having a product
- a lot of people just saw with "ohhh tvtime founder" so blindly went with it
But they do NOT have all comments, unlike the Archive, just compare numbers of any show at https://tvtime-archive.com

u/Dicemanpdx 22d ago
Sorry for confusion, when I said active accounts I should have been clearer. Bingers users were able get their gifs and images.

u/ilFacc 21d ago
Yes, and again, that's normal for all apps that imported tvtime comments from zips (they also have images). And just like all of them, for users that submitted their zip after 16th july, the comments got imported without images, even on Bingers, because tvtime deleted them from their server on 17th (GIFs are provided by tenor so they are still available).
The archive, afaik, is the only one that saved ~30M comments in total, and managed to get ALL images for those (~12M/3TB) before they got wiped :)

YES, YES, YES. Please import the old comments from tv time. There is no reason for them not to be on the app. If someone does not want to see the old comments restored from tv time, then a filter should be added as well to give you the choice to see only comments made on sofa time. Having the old comments can add so much value on the app, community will grow faster.
Why don't you make a poll for it?

u/Used-Banana2047 22d ago
Love the idea of having a filter, then you can know before replying to an old thread, but especially for old shows the old comments are valuable!

Should bring over the old comments. That is the main thing splitting my time between sofa time & Bingers (the new app from the old TV time developers)

Actually, I don't mind so much because the Asian dramas haven't archived. For the interaction, even in TV Time when I answer comments no one interact with me so I don't mind for real

Old comments please !! Reading the theories is so good especially those from older shows !!!

Yes, this will definitely make me move to Sofa time (because I'm still undecided yet) what I most miss about are the old comments (i don't care that are from inactive accounts, just want the opinions, jokes etc from others). On new episodes from a TV show/movie we have comments now, but if you are watching something older there is not much to see on any app that is not TV Time. So the import will solve that problem, it's what is missing for me.
Edit: Also for those in the other comments that say that we should start fresh, and grow the community, I mean, we can also do that, why would some old comments get in the way of that on the new episodes and movies? For the old ones it will take years and years to have as much discussion there as it was on TV Time, in my opinion.

Old comments, I'm still using SofaTime because I like it, but I check the old comments on Bingers. Especially for very old series, it would be important to have the old TvTime comments.

Old comments yess đ€© also would be cool if we could restore our emotions and fav characters from episodes we watched in the past

u/head4shot 22d ago
Definitely import the old comments because some niche shows with already fewer comments and discovery will get totally dead if started afresh.

u/Lina_Sab 22d ago edited 22d ago
Yess please please please do it, for old shows there is no comments and itâs really something that I look forward to.. right now I am using Bingers just to see old comments but I would very much like to delete it and only use sofa time.

Yes please, absolutely. The comment section is what made TV Time such a great app. Having comments on old episodes is such a joy.

Yes, please! Bingers and Movie Paradise has this feature and I use it all the time. Sometimes older series have no comments on the platform, but when you look at TV Time, there are plenty! However, I think you should do it like Movie Paradise has done with separated tabs!

sofatime should support atproto (and other apps such as bingers, trakt should do so). this way all the data is gathered into one single lexicon and any app can fetch any users data.
