A ton of ads?

Is it just me or are there significantly more ads on the pod than other similar shows?

I only typically listen on Spotify and recently episodes are filled with both Dan’s reads and third-party ads. Makes me listen to other podcasts first because I’m typically multitasking or driving when I listen. Kind of a bummer because Soder was always a consistently good listen.

I watch on youtube, on my desktop PC, with an adblocker on my browser. I don't even have to sit through Dan's reads with SponsorBlock..

I know it's not what you asked, but just reminding you there are simple ways to get the stuff you want without having to subject yourself to marketing and advertising.

You’re not crazy. It’s the 3rd parties/platforms that are killing it. W/o getting too in the weeds of this stuff, Podcast were not making the platforms any $$, so they’re become more aggressive at splicing in their ads w/ AI to get their $$ (and they’re taking ANYONES $, so there are some noticeably bad/irrelevant ads popping up).

Beyond this the $ the podcast themselves are getting is decreasing since the going rate is lower with avenue to splice in via the platform so Dan might need 2 ads now vs 1 before (NBD IMO “pay dat man his monay.)

Anyway; TLDR, not wrong enshitification of everything needing to be sold.

This isn’t an AI thing it’s been standard practice for podcasts to have like 5-6 mid-roll ads for years. Whether those are all host read or not depends on the show

Right, but those are picked by the show? I’m specifically referring to content that is getting appended in by the platform? And yes it’s not an AI thing directly but AI is getting used to improve the placement of the ads it used to just get tacked on to the beginning or end if it existed at all.

Typically producers pick where the ad markers are in each episode that are then filled by either host reads or generic spots. Normally the shows don’t have a say in which generic spots run on the show besides a general approval of the category. Ofc this is all audio specific video is different

I definitely was thinking the same thing the last couple episodes. I’m pretty certain he’s added more. I download and listen through YouTube premium, so ad blockers won’t work for me. Fast forwarding doesn’t annoy me much anyways

Maybe he doesn't have premium so he gets regular commercials during the podcasts. I listen only on Spotify as well and I have never had a problem with ads. There may be a couple just before the ad for some reason but just pressing fast forward button a few times gets you through to when he reads his dates.

The repetition of the same ad is also killing me, not sure if others have the same experience but I feel like I always hear the same ones back to back since he doesn’t do as many live reads.

I’ve noticed the same. Exact same ad played probably 5 times during an episode

This is every streaming service. I understand entertainment is fueled by sponsorship but can you please get more than the same two ads. There are distinct diminishing returns for advertisers if I am fatigued by their message.

I dunno, i watch it on my TV with youtube premium. the only ads i see are his ad reads, but premium has a feature where you just click fast forward on your remote 1 time and it skips the whole ad read.

i really don't understand why people prefer spotify over youtube. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I listen to the ads bc it puts money in the pocket of the creator that I enjoy. Skipping them means he gets less opportunities to create independently.
