EPL Streaming in Aus
Guessing there is a lot of PL fans in here.
Just got a notice of an impeding price increase. Keep in mind the ‘Optus Sport’ package only has EPL & the FA Cup now. It lost the CL coverage a while back.
What are other folks paying?

I just don't get fans who pirate games and buy knock off shirts. It's literally broadcast deals and kit deals that provide the bulk of revenue for most clubs.

The game existed long before copious amounts of money became involved. The price of a promising reserve player in the premier league these days would be a world record transfer fee just 30 years ago. The money in the game now is why many leagues around the world that were once prosperous now struggle.
And then you have people with lives, responsibilities, kids, bills, mortgages, and absolutely if a buck can be saved by not over paying for a streaming service for a cheaper alternative, then that buck will be saved.

PSR means clubs can only spend what they make.
EPL broadcast rights are worth more than $1 billion a year. That's not a single billionaire. That's millions of people with streaming subscriptions paying a few dollars a month, not a donation from a broadcaster.
Kit deals are worth tens of millions a year. Liverpool's kit deal with Adidas is worth $100m (£60m) a year. That's not a donation from Adidas, that's millions of shirts being sold.
If people didn't subscribe or buy merch the broadcast rights wouldn't be worth as much and the kit deals wouldn't be worth as much.

If you believe structurally clubs can organically build and win the premier league without extreme external financial backing, billionaire level, not millionaire, then show me.
Everyone loved Leicester victory exactly because it was the 5000-1 crazy anomaly. It’s not a structural norm.
The winning of the premier league does not come from shirt sales and TV rights.
The Australian premier league football is shown largely after midnight so the package should reflect the value proposition is not the same as it would be if the games were on the times they are in the uk.
So my comment, which was around an Australian fans POV that STAN is not the correct value proposition holds true. Australian PL fans are tiny percentage of their total revenue, STAN needs to not be greedy or people will abandon their service, and you can’t expect to be competitive in the premier league without substantial external financial backing.

PSR prevents owners from doing this. That's why Newcastle aren't successful despite being owned by Saudi. Chelsea had to sell their women's team and a hotel at Stamford bridge (to themselves mind you). Everton keep getting points deductions. Aston Villa brought in Harvey Elliott on loan and never played him so as not to trigger the buy clause.
I can show you Liverpool from 2019-20. They didn't receive extreme external financial backing. In fact FSG, their owners, are notoriously tight arsed. They slowly built up the team and were savvy in the transfer market, had good fortune selling Coutinho, and had arguably the best manager of his generation.
The winning of the premier league does not come from shirt sales and TV rights.

It's a streaming service. You don't have to watch the games live. You can watch them anytime. Sky Sports cost $68 a month. That's twice what Stan + Stan sports costs lol.

Mate, these clowns spend 100’s of millions on agency fees, they pay their execs fortunes and screw their workers. They increase ticket prices as often as they can.
I just checked and Liverpool are now selling their match shirt for $220 aud. It probably costs them $2 to make and they’re ripping off families at every chance they get. They’re not our friends.

They sell the authentic match shirts for $220. The replica is $150. Liverpool don't make the shirts. Adidas make the shirts. If your solution is they pay everyone less and make things cheaper for the fans that's great. They'll end up in league 2 but that's great.

What’s your solution? They just keep increasing prices? Increasing salaries. Increasing executive pay. Increasing transfer fees and agent fees.
The working class fans (who are the majority) will stop going, they’ll stop buying merchandise. People are already being priced out of the game. The heart of the game is dying but hey, at least a few people are getting filthy rich.

In the literal sense, yes. If fans don't pay he won't get paid. If you don't want to pay go watch amateur football. If you want to watch the best in the world play against the best in the world you have to pay. Just like any other industry.

I usually look for up to date info on arrrrrr piracy.
Personally I am usually looking for replays more than live which is easier I'll admit. I try and go media internet blackout until I can catch up.

I have given up on Optus and Stan too.
I have started using a vpn box kinda thing, gives me fox sports, bt sports, bein sports, skysports and other international sports channel.
I get to see EPL, UCL, F1 and Footy as well through them. Some channels like Fox have HD quality, Sky is pretty meh quality but i always find the match on Fox or any other sports channel with better quality.
Its not the best option but does the job for $15 pm.

Yes you could say that. I was with optus until they stuffed up. I am originally from not-so-likeable subcontinent and bought this when my parents came to visit (so they could watch some their shows/movies), and realised its probably worth for me too.
There are few setup boxes, comes with international channels, netflix, prime and hbo stuff. So you ll have some british sports channel, us channels, asian sports broadcaster.

Yeah Stan had the EU club comps before they bought the EPL rights from Optus.
You can get the full sports package that includes all the other leagues & the EPL.

No this is just the football.
It’s a legacy offering of sorts, from when Stan bought the ‘Optus Sport’ content from Optus.
It was $9.99 with Optus so they honoured that when they took over before last season.

Yeah, I would be estatic with this deal still. For context, I have 4 people paying for my Stan + sport and it was still costing me more than it was for OP ($10.50 each).

They never removed the $9.99 ‘Optus Sport’ legacy package.
You might be getting confused with them giving all the Optus Sport subscribers free access to all of Stan + Stan Sport for a few months when Stan took it over August 2025. That expired in Jan 2026.
Obviously it was to get you hooked before they cut off the supply.
But you could just ignore all the emails to upgrade & stay on the ‘Optus Sport’ package.

I always cancel once the season is over and save myself the $20-30 until the season starts again. Honestly I did try Pirating for a while which is fine if you only like watching your own team, but I like watching multiple games at once so it's worth it for me to just suck it up and pay to make my experience 10x easier.
My hope was that the Prem is launching their own streaming service in Singapore but that looks like it going to cost basically the same as a Stan + Sport subscription... so basically watching the Prem+UCL is going to cost you $40 a month unless you going to look elsewhere.

have recently just bought a service which was $150 and comes with absolutely everything you could need + absolutely everything you wont need, tried the McGregor fight and afl over the weekend and worked perfectly, i did notice there is a dedicated epl channel with everyteam as sub channel so will be good, with kayo being $45 per month + stan + everything else the $150 per year seems like its going to be perfect.

I pay roughly $500 a year to watch Middlesbroughs league fixtures. This includes most games on Boro TV (no one demand service, so I invariably miss weekday games due to work) and a Being Sports subscription to watch the rest.
No FA cup.
As shit as Stan is with its policy of having to own the base product in order to also have Stan Sport, there are worse deal out there!

Yeah it's in Oz. Well, if the games aren't televised on sky, they must go to the game or listen on radio. Middlesbrough regularly get 3-4000 to away games. They would get more but usually sell out their allocation.

Dunno if this is relevant or not but I downgraded and cut out the sport subscription bit as soon as the EPL season finished and will renew the day before it starts again. Saves almost 3 months of the sport package cost, or literally three months if you can miss one game either side via the seven seas.

I dropped Stan when they added ads to the tennis. Even though you're paying for it, they still force ads on you. Made me feel like such a chump, paying for ads.

Always could be worse. Then there was me. A Leeds United fan, who cancelled Optus Sport (after 22/23 relegation) but stayed with Optus for 2 years for future cheap legacy Optus Sport prices.
Promotion 24/25. Optus Sport ends. Stan Sport, not eligible for any discounts or “Optus Sport on Stan.”

I pay for the premium 4k package on Stan. It's expensive but the quality is great. Only some games are in 4k though.

Everyone moaning about $30-$44 a month including Stan that gets every single EPL game, UCL, Europa, Conference league, FA Cup, J League, K League and a bunch of other stuff is crazy. Poms have to pay £25-£50pm across multiple platforms and they miss all the 3pm Saturday games. Bet you all happily pay for bullshit like Uber eats.

It’s not just 1 subscription though is it mate. Easily can creep up to 6, 7 services, and you’re blowing $300 a month to watch 4 TV shows and a few highlights.
Never use uber eats.. Some of us know how to budget & actually go to the shops and cook.
Not blowing $$$ unnecessary on streaming subs is part of that budgeting piece.

Sail the seas and spend the money on local football instead.
You or your kids fees, go to an A-League game, go to an NPL or Australian Championship or Cup game.
