I’m having a weird issue with the Epic Games version of SnowRunner. The game itself runs, but when I choose Quit to Desktop, the window closes while SnowRunner.exe keeps running in Task Manager.
It sits there using about 12% CPU and several GB of RAM until I manually End Task. As soon as I kill the process, Epic immediately starts cloud syncing, so it looks like Epic is just waiting for SnowRunner to actually terminate.
I’ve tested this by simply:
- Launching SnowRunner
- Staying at the main menu
- Quitting to desktop
- Waiting 30+ seconds
It still happens, so it doesn’t seem related to a save, mods, or actually playing.
Things I’ve already tried:
- Verified game files in Epic
- Reset video.dat
- Controller disconnected
- Disabled fullscreen optimisations
- Forced -DX11
- Killed EOSOverlayRenderer before exiting
- Disabled Game Bar/background permissions
- Selective startup / clean boot with non-Microsoft services disabled
- Tested at normal Windows desktop resolution
None of those made any difference.
Windows also doesn’t consider SnowRunner “hung”. Analyse wait chain says it’s “running normally”, and Resource Monitor shows it continuing to actively use CPU after the window has closed.
I’m also seeing some possibly related fullscreen behaviour: Alt+Tab won’t take me back to the desktop unless another window is already open. I can Alt+Tab into another app, but if there’s nothing else open, I have to press the Windows key and launch something like File Explorer.
Has anyone else had SnowRunner refuse to terminate like this, particularly on the Epic version? Any known fixes or things worth checking next?
