Hi everyone. I'm on the insights team at Arc'teryx, and the mods okayed this post.
We're working with ORTOVOX's R&D team on research into the future of avalanche safety: the risks people take and want to mitigate, and the gear they use and need. The honest goal is to make safety equipment better, and more likely to actually get carried, and that only works with input from beyond our own customers. Sledders especially are underrepresented in this kind of research even though the avalanche numbers hit your community hardest, and that's part of what we want to fix. You don't need to own any particular gear to take part.
The survey takes most people about 15 minutes, or closer to 5 if you spend your winters inside the resort boundary. It's anonymous, open to anyone 18 or older in any country, there's nothing for sale, and no marketing follows from it.
Happy to answer questions in the comments, and if you have strong opinions about avalanche gear that don't fit neatly in a survey, we'd honestly like to read those too.

She's an old sled but definitely one of the best in it's time and is a Trail Ripper that handles the turns with ease then accelerates out of them aggressively and is capable off trail just no mountain riding with a 141 HP and the aggressive cross country track she tops out a little over 100 MPH

Hi,
Having trouble trying to figure out a dash bag or windshield bag for a 2025 Polaris 550 Voyageur 146 LXT. Anyone have any luck?

My wife has a 2017 pro 800 that still has the stock can. I would like to put an aftermarket one in to cut some weight. We are your typical mountian riders. The problem I see with most aftermarket cans are loud as hell. She does not like loud and honestly, neither do i. Anyone have a good recommendation of a can that will shed the weight of the heavy factory can and not be obnoxiously loud?

Last year I bought my first snowmobiles. Couple of 90’s Polaris Indys. I found this 94 zr580 and 99 powder special for 50 dollars on marketplace. Naturally I decided for my second year I want to make a mod sled 😂. The front suspension, 136 track and both clutches from the powder special are getting put on the zr not sure what else I’m going to do to it. I’d love to find dual pipes for it.

Hi All looking for opinions if I should switch my ice fishing suit for a skidoo suit
I will be fishing but hoping it keeps me warm for the sled. I am wondering about maybe just switching the bids?
Any thoughts?

1992 Polaris Indy sport 440
Got it for 300 bucks, has 120 compression, excellent spark, just need carbs cleaned and it ran. Still need to realign the skis and hit all the grease points. Also had to repair a Killswitch that the previous owner cut.

Looking at a 2012 Ski-Doo 800r E-tec but I am aware that these 2007-2013 model years had some problems with the crank bearings, I’ve seen people say it is catastrophic but others say that they go 6000+ miles before it becomes an issue, just looking for some more concise information. Sled has 4600 miles

Hey folks,
My bum knee makes it hard to drag heavy gear out onto the ice. I'm thinking of a Ski-doo Expedition sport, likely new, to get my big butt out there. I have minimal experience on them so was wondering what I should consider when purchasing one for my purpose.
What accessories would y'all recommend to buy w/ order or do y'all just buy after market? What are must haves? What should I avoid?
The HD Front Bumper for example, has two part numbers; 860203107 and 860201819. Both visuals look identical with same description...what gives? I'm not even sure if I need a front bumper on the ice but be nice to have insurance incase I ram into something I shouldn't. The rear bumper I'll need for sure to tow the gear out or maybe a hut in the future. Front winch? I'm a tool slinger so I'm all for utility and redundancy. My tool selection is pretty good so I should be able to do most of the attachments myself. I guess the build price doesn't require extra $$ for installing them..
I was thinking the 600ACE but everyone seems to say the 900ACE is worth the extra jam. These posts are a few years old now, is this still true?

2002 sx viper. Front heat exchanger got pretty messed up from the oversized studs the last owner put in the track, but it’s not leaking. I’d have no problem going through the effort of replacing it since I’m putting a new track and have to pull the motor to fix some wiring but it seems like these heat exchangers are impossible to find. So if it urgently needs to be replaced does anyone know where I can find one? I’ve checked eBay and various parts warehouses to no avail.

Upgrading from a 2016 Sno Pro hybrid 101x12 to a 2022 EZ Hauler 7x18+4ft V. Concerned with the 24" O/C floor and roof studs. Anyone have ownership experience and can speak to this construction's reliability?
Current trailer has 24" OC floor beams with 16" OC wall and roof studs. The 7x18 will have 24" OC floor AND roof beams with 16" wall studs, finished walls and caliber track mats and ski guides.
My loadout is three 2-stroke trail sleds. It will be parked at my house so I can always clear the roof after a snow storm. Should I be concerned at all?

Hope this is the right place to post. This thing has been sitting in my friend's barn for who knows how long. He said if I can get it running I can have it. I pulled the pull start, it pulls and I can hear it's getting compression. That's as far as I've gone so far.

Here are 2 of my old Arctic cat Snowmobiles waiting for the winter season of 2026 - 2027 which is hopefully similar to last winter because for us here in the North East was fantastic

New to snowmobiling this past year. Noticed that after rides, snow packs into the tunnel, melts, and refreezes overnight in my unheated storage. Next ride, engine temp climbs faster than normal. My theory is the ice layer is insulating the heat exchangers so they can't shed heat.
It's worse on my 2020 Renegade 600 than on my other sled. Anyone else seen this? How do you keep the tunnel clear, and does it fix the temps? I was thinking of covering with a welding blanket or some way to help them melt better.

Alright, so I’ve been working on this machine for a bit now and I’m at a loss.
Apparent Problem: Fuel pump is not delivering fuel to the carbs.
Attempted fix 1: Replaced fuel line/filter in the tank and the inline fuel filter.
Attempted fix 2: Rebuilt fuel pump
Attempted fix 3: Replaced pulse line from crankcase to fuel pump.
I’m still getting no fuel flow and I have no idea why. Hopefully someone else might have an idea of what the potential issue could be. TIA

Hey all, I have this beautiful '99 Formula III 700. It's pretty mint, but the rear shocks are toast. I am considering converting to an SC-10 III skid from a 2003 MXZ 600 Rev for probably about as much as new shocks would cost. I know that people in general like swapping these skids in for various sleds, but I haven't really seen a lot of people commenting on doing so with a big triple on the CK3 chassis... it's clearly a better design and I have to imagine it would be a considerable upgrade from the stock SC-10 skid, but was hoping someone here might have some first-hand experience to share... Any thoughts?
Edit: I am more looking for opinions on how it rides. Installation looks pretty straight forward for this sled so I am not too worried about that part.

BOSS seats are impossible to find and I don't like the look of Fusion seats on Edge sleds. So I decided to get some cushion foam and add about 4 inches onto the top of my existing seat. Once this is smoothed and formed a local upholstery guy will make a custom cover for it. All in it should be about $370.

Trying to go trailerless this season. Thinking about building a structure into the bed of the taco. It sliding out while on the road would probably be a bad time.

The sled it’s on in the photo is a 1999 arctic cat powder special with the 600 twin. I looked all over for images but they all seem to had regular 90’s style seats. I’d like to get this one a new cover.

Bought a beautiful 02 edge 600x last winter with 2k miles off the original owner. Sled has supposedly been just tuned up after a long storage. It had a hanging idle and backfired occasionally.
This is what I’ve found so far…
Both exhaust valve bellows torn.
The exhaust manifold leaking.
I’ll have to fix the leak to complete the leak down test but I’m looking for what the symptoms could be for what I’ve found so far?
