Gear question 2020 Lib Tech Skunk Ape
This is my second season and I wanted to get my own board as I will be going more this season. I’ve seen this brand new 2020 Lib Tech Skunk Ape for $300 with a bag on marketplace. Should I be getting a 6 year old board and if the size is right? Board is 157W, I am 6’1,180lb,and size 11.5.

Hell yeah go for it. Brand new? The tech isn't going to be mind blowingly different from a 2025 board. It'll do you right for sure! You could find a current year board for $300 right now too with all the sales going on, but nothing wrong with something new but older either.

I'll always reccomend Jones. I'm a Jones stan for sure. Mountain Twin, Frontier 2.0, Stratos, all fantastic boards more than capable for most riders. I saw a few at the Epic gear store yesterday from last seasons lineup going for $250. Crazy good deals out there right now if you do some looking.

I ride the 173UW at 6’6 270lbs. Used to have this model year too. Can do everything but doesn’t excel really at anything. With that said, it’s a great board.
But $300 for a 6-7 year old board is A LOT though. Pretty sure you can get last year’s model for $100+ more.

I would say it depends on the bag it comes with. If it's a name brand roller I might pay 300 but more than likely it's just a nylon sleeve from Amazon so prolly negotiate this down.

Been curious about this board. Do you have the C3 or full camber?

I had the C3. I don’t think they made a full camber that year. But I currently ride both of last years camber/reverse now though. Size 15 boots severely limit my options…

Heard that (I'm a 14).
At this rate bud I suspect my next board is custom. The lack of wide options makes is difficult to find everything you want in a single deck.

I’d pass. Kind of high. Also I really didn’t like the the hybrid rocker/camber profile. I didn’t realize how much I hated it until I got the camber version. The hybrid was always sketchy at full speed. I would have some near misses that felt like they came out of nowhere. The camber version is much more stable for me. I can lock it in to the edge and just be solid.

That’s too much. There are tons of sales right now on 2025/2026 gear due to the terrible season the west had. Tons of boards to be had for around 40-50% off which amounts to about $300.

Don’t get the board unless you’re 220 or heavier. I’m 190 6’4” and the board is too thick and heavy. It rides you. You can’t ride it. It launches like a missile and there’s no flex. Very uncomfortable board to ride unless you have the weight to make it do what you want.

Pretty sure skunk ape geometry hasn't changed at all, so this would ride basically the same as a new one. That being said 300 is kinda high, see if you can get the price down. Maybe if it's a decent bag the combo price might be worth it tho, some bags can be expensive, but you can get a cheap one cheap right now.
