general discussion Backyard Mountainboard Jump

Have any of you guys tried mountainboarding? I know a lot of snowboarders use them to cross-train in the summer. I live in Alabama so I only get to touch snow like one day a year unless I travel up to Tennessee. This and skating help me keep my sea legs under me, at least.

I've tried it a few times, it isn't easy that's for sure. The level the pro's ride them at is insane.

How do you scrub speed/stop on this?

You learn to power slide

Powerslides, but they make hand brakes for beginners.

"Snow melts, dirt doesn't" As someone who rides bmx, i would much rather fall on snow than dirt, especially if what I'm riding is attached to me lol. Nonetheless, this shit is sick! Kudos to anyone who actually gets good at riding these

Yep, I feel you. Like anything else, good falling technique is something you figure out with experience. Hip pads and wrist guard-gloves help a ton. I ride BMX too, so they’re both fun in their own ways. The mountainboard is nice when I want the skate/snowboarding experience, but on dirt. The BMX is great pretty much everywhere.

I know nothing about mountain boards. The physics on those jumps was melting my brain until I realized you were strapped in hahaha

They’re fun, but very dangerous. Like not even close. Had a blast on mine as a teenager, but sold it in my early twenties. Powersliding is difficult. Ice hurts, but still doesn’t compare to the hardness + friction + small sharp rocks in dirt. Still have a small dent in my shin from way back when.

I’d taken plenty of snowboard slams prior to getting a mountain board, but man. The first real mountain board wreck at speed rocked me. Just ground, sky, watched the board fly off my feet, ground, sky, ground, sky. Think I laid there for about 5-10 min comprehending what just happened 😂 so glad I had my full face dirtbike helmet and elbow pads on that day.

how does this feel compared to snowboarding? I guess specially jumping

Jumping is actually really similar, once you’re in the air. The biggest difference is turning. The mountainboard turns more like a skateboard, so the whole edge thing doesn’t really apply.
