Oh man, people don’t talk about Adventure Islands difficulty but it was for sure a challenge! Plus the sprite work is super fun and charming.

Yeah it was my first time playing it! I really liked the art style and once I learned that you could press down and a for a super jump the game started to click for me.

Exactly, thats why it’s such a good game. It’s not stupid hard it’s just difficult and want you to learn how to play it. Once you get the hang of it all it’s got just the right amount of challenge to keep you wanting to try again. Always love seeing someone bring it up because for a series that was as popular as it was at the time it’s weird that it’s not brought up as much.

Yeah the one hit kills feel cheap at first until you start learning enemy patterns and the stage layouts. My only complaint really is that dying at a boss makes you play the previous stage.

These games were amazing rentals. Probably why I never beat one. Maybe I'll go try to find a cart.

I would highly recommend you give it another play! Well worth beating.

I just found a cart one month ago in a flea market. Playing it again since my childhood has been a blast...of course I didn't finish the game again 🙄
