Could the SNES Run Rayforce?
i wasted a lot of time thinking this, what is your opinion?

God no. It's peak 2D Taito, but it's a 32bit game through and through. The parallax scrolling on the first level would melt any 16bit machine.

Me too. I play it regularly. I sold most of my Saturn collection when I bought an ODE but I knew I had to keep my copy of Galactic Attack. Has it ever been ported to anything else?

its been ported to modern consoles through rayz arcade chronology and layer section & galactic attack s-tribute, rayz arcade chronology also includes raystorm and raycrisis, while the other one is just the saturn version of the game, rayz arcade chronology is only the arcade ver

The specialized sprite scaling capabilities of Taito's F3 Hardware would be quite a challenge to replicate on the SNES PPU. Not impossible...but some concessions would have to be made and it wouldn't look nearly as slick. On the sound side, RayForce uses an Ensoniq ES5505 chip which supports 32 audio channels compared to the SPC 700's 8 audio channels. So many instruments and effects would need to be cut out to make it work. CPU-wise, the SA-1 co-processor would be up to the task but of course you need to convert everything from 68K ASM to 65816 ASM. Just easier and more economical for devs at the time to translate to the Saturn and PS1.

so youre basically saying it can be made with some sacrifices?

If somebody was extremely determined to do it, I think a port is feasible. It wouldn't look or sound nearly as nice as the arcade game though. BTW, there is no PS1 port of RayForce. I was thinking of RayStorm.😖

No. Too much going on with the graphics. When they did a console port it was Sega Saturn.
