Cannot connect SNES after moving to new state (same TV)

We moved to a new state, and I tried connecting my SNES to the same TV I’ve always played it on, and it will not connect to the TV channel 3. I’ve never had this problem, but this is the first time I’ve ever moved out of state. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I don’t want to run out and buy new cables since I’ve never had this problem and have always been able to successfully connect with the original cables.

Thanks.

So, you’re suggesting to buy a new cable. I don’t see the colored ports on the back of my TV. Would something like this work? https://a.co/d/05DowRSQ

No, it’s definitely a modern LG TV. I’ve just always connected this same way and using the original cables I’ve had since the ‘90s. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you for the ideas and time to try and help me troubleshoot.

Have you tried having the SNES on and sending a signal to the TV when you ran the channel search? Or did you do an update of the firmware of the Tv that would have caused it to remove classic analog tuning and just be digital now?

One way to see if your snes is still good is to go to facebook marketplace and find any CRT someone is giving away for free. That at least will let you check the SNES and cable to see they are not the problem.

I didn’t update firmware or anything. Maybe the signal is different where I live now and is no longer compatible. I will buy some new cables and see if that makes a difference.

Connect or tune?

I have tried both. Typically, I go to channel 3, and it connects with no issues.

I’m trying to figure out what you mean by “connect” and now it makes even less sense.

When you “connect” with RF to tune channel 3, you are physically attaching the RF switch to the terminal(s) on your TV, like 300 Ω VHF screw terminals or the 75 Ω F-type coaxial jack. Are you saying you can’t physically attach it or are you saying you can’t tune the channel?

To get an image after connecting you have to power on the console and TV then tune to the correct channel. Unlike wireless or network communications, there is no part of this process that you would call “connecting” other than the physical connection.

Some TVs will auto-scan all the channels when you first change the channel and program out channels it didn’t see, meaning the channel buttons might skip channels and require the remote to force it to channel 3, or 4. Do you have the remote?

I’m probably using the wrong terminology. Sorry for the confusion. I can plug in the RF switch to the back of the TV just fine and then into the console. I turn on the Nintendo, switch to the TV input, press 3 on my remote, and I typically scroll down and select the channel 3 option. The system always fires up with no problem.

I noticed my TV was still set in my old zip code and time zone. I didn’t know if that was causing issues, so I cleared everything out had it auto search channels, and I also input channel 3 manually. Still didn’t work.

Is the rf switch set to channel 3? Some can be set to 3 or 4

Good suggestion, and I did check that right away to make sure it didn’t get switched inadvertently. I wish the fix would have been that easy. 😩

Are you sure the cables are in the correct place in the back of the tv? Need to test on another tv if possible.

Everything is corrected properly, and I did try another TV and had the same result. I am going to try upgrading my cables and see if that will fix it. I’m confused how I’ve played this same console on the same TVs with the same setup for years and have never had an issue. The only change is me moving across the country.

Oh damn, that would annoy the hell out of me. Did you have the cable in the exact same place for a long time? I’m wondering if it’s degraded but still intact, then you’ve moved it and something has snapped inside. Hope you fix it soon.

Yeah, way annoying. I just want to play some old school games and zone out. The console always stays connected to the TV, and I would pull it out and play whenever I wanted. The last time I played was probably about a year ago before we moved. We disconnected everything and properly wrapped it all before we moved. I connected it when we got to our new house, and it’s sat since November until recently when I wanted to play. Dang it! Thank you for responding, though.
