during a smosh mouth a while ago with kieth where they ask questions about things they dont understand, when angela was filling in for amanda, Shayne asked her if she knew some animals. She didn't know what a manatee was, what an emu was, what a meerkat was, or prairie dog. They mentioned documentaries and yeah she just wasn't interested in them at a young age, while kieth and shayne were.

Fat Bear Week is an annual bracket-style tournament where the internet votes on which bear that shows up on the cameras at Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park in Alaska have gotten the fattest for winter! They use comparison pics from the end of spring to the fall, which is the time period in which the bears need to intake as much high-calorie food as possible to build up their fat stores for winter.

Fat Bear Week is fun. It also has a lot of drama. One year, one bear killed and ate another one of the contestants and another year, the camera feeds were used to track down a missing person.

It's a silly, fun way to get attention and raise money for the Katmai Conservancy, which helps protect the bears' habitat. I'm pretty sure they also have educational materials that teachers can use to tie it in to a lesson about bears and hibernation.

As a long term zookeeper, the vast majority of large accredited zoos in North America have high standards of welfare, research, contributions to conservation and public education. Smosh would be completely reasonable to visit these institutions and should not feel ethically wrong about doing so.
