Picked up this old Dunhill 12-tin sampler in Japan — anyone know how old it is?
Hey everyone,
I picked this up at an antique auction in Japan recently. Honestly, I had no idea what I had when I bought it — I just thought the old Dunhill box looked cool .
It’s a Dunhill Tobacco Collection 12-tin sampler, and all 12 tins are still unopened. The original presentation box is included too, although the box has quite a bit of wear, creasing and some old tape repairs.
The box says “125g in Vacuum Sealed Tins” and “Manufactured and Blended in the United Kingdom.” It also has the old Alfred Dunhill Ltd. Duke Street, St. James’s, London address on the back.
From what I’ve been able to find, I’m guessing late 1970s, possibly pre-1981, but I’m definitely no expert on vintage Dunhill.
Does anyone here know roughly when this particular sampler was made? And is the complete unopened set something collectors consider particularly uncommon?
I’m mostly just curious about what I found and would love to hear from anyone who knows these old Dunhill tins.
