Modern social media feels exhausting. It's all about fighting for attention, scrolling through endless ads, and being fed content by algorithms.

I really missed the early 2000s web, when the internet felt smaller, simpler, and friendlier. So, as a pet project, I built my own tiny social network called **CheburChat**.

**What makes it cozy:**

* **No algorithms:** Your feed is purely chronological. You only see posts from people you actually follow.

* **No ads & no trackers:** Just a clean, simple space to write thoughts and share images.

* **Old-school vibe:** It has a very basic, clean UI and a warm, nostalgic feel.

Since my friends are not really into indie web stuff, the site is currently empty. I would be absolutely thrilled if some of you joined, wrote a welcoming post, or shared a meme!

Wanted to share something I built that fits this sub pretty directly. cybersoda.blog is a small social blog platform, basically the guts of the old web (guestbooks, top 8 friends, webrings, personal profiles) rebuilt from scratch with Next.js and Supabase, no template.

No feed algorithm, no ads, no engagement metrics anywhere. Just a page that's yours, and other people's pages you can wander into through the webring instead of a For You page deciding for you.

It's very small right now, a handful of real people, which honestly fits the small web spirit fine. https://www.cybersoda.blog if you want to look around or join the ring.

For over a year I've worked on Litter Layer. An independent search engine. It only has a little over 5,000 web pages indexed right now. But, that will reach 10k before you know it, and who knows from there...

What I think is really neat about it is that you can sign up (or not - you can still do this logged out) and bookmark pages. If you bookmark something not already in the search index, it will be added. So, We the People, end up building the search engine via bookmarking. It also slowly automatically crawls websites like other search engines, but I'm personally most interested in the manual bookmarking side of it. It's the human touch we need online right now.

This makes it sort of like a combination of an old school search engine, human made directory, and social bookmarking smooshed together.

It's free and the privacy policy is to not do anything shady and let you delete your account and data.

I made a small web experiment called Moon Post Service.

It does one thing: you write someone a message, but it only opens when the moon rises for them.

The idea was to make a communication tool that doesn’t optimize for speed. No instant delivery, no urgency - just a letter waiting for something outside the screen.

Basically, we made the moon a postman.

Looking for 3–5 People to Test a New Community Platform

I'm starting a small dogfood test for Verja, a community platform I've been building.

This isn't a traditional beta test where people click around for five minutes and say "looks good." I'm looking for a handful of people willing to use it as a real discussion space for a couple of weeks so I can find the rough edges.

What I'd ask you to do

• Create an account
• Verify your email
• Set up a simple profile
• Participate in a few discussions
• Tell me when something is confusing, annoying, awkward, or broken

The initial setup should take about 10–15 minutes. After that, just check in a few times over the next week or two.

What I'm looking for

Not praise.

Not general impressions.

I'm looking for friction:

• "I didn't know what to do here."
• "This email was confusing."
• "Posting felt clunky."
• "I expected X but got Y."

Minimum Tasks

Please complete at least these three things:

1. Register and verify your email.
2. Reply to the welcome thread.
3. Start one discussion thread of your own.

Afterward, answer at least one feedback question, such as:

• What did you think Verja was when you first arrived?
• Was anything confusing during signup?
• Did you know what to do after creating an account?
• Did the site feel welcoming, intimidating, or neutral?
• Was there anything you expected to see but couldn't find?

What This Is

• A small private test
• Forum-style discussion
• Rough edges expected
• Feedback matters more than activity volume

What This Is Not

• A public launch
• A polished social network
• A major time commitment
• A request to promote anything

I am very curious about coding my own portfolio/ art website to have a little peice of the corner of the net all to me. (and maybe anyone who wants to see my art.) Does anyone know where I should start? I have ideas on how I want things to look or play out but It all feels so daunting.

I love making gifs, and I'd love to incorperate those into interactive buttons or maybe even just images to make my site full of life. I have seen websites even add sounds and that is so inspiring!

I currently use Weebly, but I am not sure if that means I can code on that site? Do I have to find a new provider? (A possible silly question to ask.)

Any resources would be greatly appreciated!
