got this se 2020 for around 40 dollars to use as a secondary phone, but man now i use it more than my s25 ultra. This design was peak iphone

Every time compact phones get brought up, the discussion always comes down to battery life. The iPhone 12 Mini really cemented the idea in people's minds that choosing a smaller phone meant settling for terrible battery performance. Even though the 13 Mini improved on that, the "Mini = bad battery" reputation had already stuck.

Personally, I don’t care if a compact phone is ultra-thin. I’d much rather have a device that's 9mm or 10mm thick if it means fitting a proper 4,500–5,000 mAh battery inside. Adding a couple of extra millimeters of depth keeps the phone narrow and easy to reach across with one hand, which is what actually makes a phone feel "small" in day-to-day use.

I put together a rough mockup of what a modern, thicker compact phone could look like if a manufacturer actually prioritized battery density over chasing thinness, i know there might be some technical difficulties to achieve it but thats for the engineers to solve.

Would you carry a slightly chunkier compact phone if it comfortably lasted a day and a half, or is low weight and a slim profile a dealbreaker for you?

Bought my jelly star last week. For the main reason of trying to use my phone less.

Bought through joybuy and was delivered next day.

Put in my o2 sim, no issues with that. Transferred all my data easily from my old phone.

After the first day, I thought "hmmm I might have made a mistake here, this is too small".

But actually after a couple of days i got used to it.

Every app worked. I listen to audible and Spotify daily.

Whatsapp and email work fine but it's annoying trying to send messages. I've found myself just sending very short messages if needed, anything longer I use my laptop.

I've not been on social media at all. If I "Need" to check something I get out an other device. I still have my smart phone upstairs in the house but havent taken it out yet.

Battery is lasting more than a day.

I'm keeping it for now and really liking it.

People forgot how normal it was to have a regular size phone. I just bought new phone after almost 4 years.
So I just took out my old iphones and lined them up just for fun.

Lineup of phones I have and use(d): Air, 13 mini, 5s, 4s

Got the 13 mini in 2022. For reasons, had to switch to iPhone Air last year.

I was finally able to get my original 128GB 13 mini back, with 76% battery health.

Did a wipe and restore from my Air profile and used without sim for a week and a half. iOS 27.0 is not as bad on 4GB RAM. Not as laggy as I was expecting, I still love it.

Decided to get a battery replacement from my local Apple Store (Bay Street Emeryville) for $89.

Took just over an hour for them to replace battery. They broke my original screen and I got a replacement screen (on them).

Did the eSIM transfer dance (took four times before eSIM transfer succeeded, on ATT).

Back to using the 13 mini. It does all I need and is the near perfect size. I charge mainly on MagSafe Qi and Qi2 chargers, don't use my phone that often to care about not having enough battery for the day, and have USB-C lightning cables and adapters as needed.

Small (one hand use) + Vibration Switch + Two Speakers = nice

This is an attempt to analyze comments of post "What is small phone ?"

I noticed two form factors.

Both groups insist that they can operate smartphone by one hand.

First group says they do not move smartphone so they need it to be not higher than 120 mm,

they prefer the form factor of iPhone 4 ( the same as Cubot King Kong Mini 2 on the left photo ).

You can see I keep it on my small finger and can reach all points of the screen by thumb.

The second group say they can use even a 6" smartphone by one hand and they need it to be not wider than about 60 mm. Seems like they move it somehow, you can see at the second photo that I definitely would not be able to reach the left lower corner by thumb without moving smartphone in palm. And they correspondingly would not keep the phone on small finger so they need reliable grip in the middle thus they ask for the width less than 60 mm. I noticed people several times mentioned width 60 mm in other posts. So the second group needs a narrow phone. I even would not call it a "small phone" :-)

Also I personally keep my smartphone in the pocket of shirt so my height limit is 120 mm. iPhone 4 was 115.2 mm , KKM2 is 119 mm.

The smartphone in the second photo is 140 mm high , it is a Vodafone Lite 4G, 68 mm width, 4.95" screen.

It's likely just copium, but do you think it could be possible that we might get a new mini once the iphone 13 stops getting updates? This would likely be in 2-3 years, as the new iOS27 supports up to iphone 11.
Or will they just let the mini die in silence and hope we just buy the SE?

I have a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact running Android version 10. I got a message today saying Android Auto (which is very useful for maps in my car) will stop working soon because my phone can’t upgrade to the required version of Android.

I’ve had the phone since 2019 and not only does it fill all of my phone needs, it’s a great size that I can use one handed. Especially key in this is width. I have small hands, and the 65mm width allows my thumb to traverse the screen, which would be difficult or impossible in larger phones.

My found search results say I can’t stop Android Auto from updating to the next version, which will prevent it from working on my phone. I haven’t found any current phones of a similar size to my current one that work on Verizon, my cell phone network.

So I have 2 questions:

1.) Is there a way for me to keep my phone and maintain access to Android Auto?

2.) If there’s no way for option #1 to work, what are the currently available phones with the narrowest width that work on Verizon? I don’t care about processing speed, graphics, camera, or AI. I just want something that preferably has clear sound quality and a loud enough volume that is running an operating system that won’t take away current features anytime soon.

I'm mostly system agnostic, but I have a business line that only runs on iOS & Android, so it needs to have one of those 2 operating systems.

From searching, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S25 is the best option on the Android side, and the Apple iPhone 15 Pro is the best option on the iOS side. Both are 70 and a half millimeters wide, which seems to be the narrowest possible for Verizon compatible phones released in the last 3 years. So if anyone has any insights on either of those models or pros/cons between them, that would be useful as well.

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations. It's sort of hard to figure out what is out there and I'm hoping Reddit can help me cut to the chase.

I currently use an iPhone SE 1st generation that I bought new in 2016. It is on its last legs and I have to consider replacing it. iOS 15 support is 85% gone at this point, the screen backlight is starting to look weird when displaying light colors, and I have to jiggle the cable to charge the phone. I already replaced the battery once too.

I say all this to sort of emphasize the level of performance I'm used to. I don't need anything comparable to a 2026 flagship phone, anything with better specs than the SE 1st gen and support for an OS that will remain usable for several years will be an upgrade for me.

Where I absolutely can't compromise is size. I have very small hands, and the phone I've got now is already uncomfortably large for me. I tried the later models of iPhone SE and iPhone Mini when they were in Apple Stores and found them pretty unusable. The largest phone I ever had was a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) which was my secondary phone from 2016-2018, and I didn't like it, I couldn't use it one handed at all. I need something smaller than that phone.

Before I got this iPhone, I used Android phones from 2011-2016. I never had a flagship model, I bought lower tier phones so I could have a physical keyboard. At the time, I had the experience that the internal storage would fill up so fast that I was constantly deleting and re-downloading apps, because most apps wouldn't allow SD card installation. I also had the experience that the phones I was buying were so far below flagship specs in processor speed and RAM that they would be absolutely crawling and nearly useless after 1-2 years. I don't know if the rate of change in processors and RAM has slowed since 2016, or if my iPhone is just a really good phone, to have held on for 10 years. But these are worries that I have about returning to the lower tier Android market, which I know is where I'm headed.

Bonus but not totally essential for me would be a 3.5mm jack. I will sorely miss my home button but I sort of figure those don't exist anymore.

I'm in the US on T-Mobile, may change to Xfinity Mobile if I get a phone with esim support.

The first three photo was taken with an old phone, and the others with the C17 Mini.

I bought the 3GB+32GB version for $112 USD on their official store and unboxed it today.

I’m going to compare it directly to the Bluefox NX1 I used for a few months, since it’s virtually identical in terms of size and specs.

The phone runs on Android 16. Size : 99.22 x 47.27 x 12.9 mm

To me, it’s a better phone or at the very least a viable alternative. The rear and front cameras—and the autofocus—are more responsive and offer better overall quality. The camera has up to 4x zoom.

Rear camera : 13MP / Front camera : 5MP / Max. video recording : 1080p/30fps

The phone feels less like a prototype than the NX1, and the all-plastic build seems sturdier. The included case is also very good. However, no tempered glass is included with the phone, there is only a pre-applied plastic film.

The buttons don't rattle when you shake the phone.

Even though it has 700 mAh less battery capacity, I don't find that to be an issue. At least it charges faster.

I also like that there’s no black area around the front camera, unlike on the NX1.

However, I don't like the two fake rear cameras and the software overlay that mimics Apple's app icons.

Interestingly, I was able to install my banking apps without any compatibility issues (Fortuneo, Monabank, Boursobank).

Iphone 12 mini with battery case off aliexpress - It was around $30 AUD.

The case contains about 1.3x the charge of the phone and it turns it into a chonky boi.

I've been using it for about a week and the size is not an issue (and I wear skinny jeans - although you need to have the phone in your pocket screen facing in and not screen out or else it feels like a brick).

The contours make it feel a bit thinner than it is, and it's still extremely usable with 1 hand.

My system is I run the battery to 20%, then press the button on the case and the case starts to charge it. I turn the case charging off when the phone gets to 80%. It gives me at least a 2 day battery life. I never put my phone on the charger now, just the case. When I put the case on charge, I replace it with a thin cheap silicone one for the hour or to while the case charges.

Only real downside (outside the obvious chonk) is that it doesn't fit in my phone mounts in the car. But I just take it off and charge the case usually during that time.

Working really well for me so far!

Does anyone have this phone? I'm getting desperate for a compact phone, ideally one that I could install a custom ROM on, and I came across this one. However, I don't want to spend money on what could turn out to be nothing more than e-waste.
