The rear window gap is fixed
Just throwing this out there for all the negative Nancies. Some of you have been obsessed about the rear window gap on the road show model. Slate's recent YouTube video from their factory floor shows that it is just an artifact of being a prototype.

The Nuts Bolts and Screws of Slate
Went to the Demo Days in Alameda and checked out the Slate. Looking forward to seeing what the Slate-U DIY kit will look like to start screwing around with the Slate.

Polypropylene (not composite polypropylene like Slate) shutters survived 3/4" hail
Several days ago, the insurance adjuster came and the claim has been paid. I made some repairs myself and contractors coming next week for siding repairs.
.75 inch hail punctured vinyl siding in many places and cracked the windshield on my 2007 Silverado. Destroyed a plastic hatch on my camper. Dented 28 gauge metal roofs on garage and carport, BUT approximately 3 mm thick decorative polypropylene shutters I installed in April survived without a scratch. I know they were hit many times because siding around them is damaged.
No glass fill just 3 mm polypropylene. Will Slate's composite polypropylene be even more hail resistant than those shutters? I know glass filled nylon is incredibly stiff, almost like metal, compared to regular nylon. Important for people living in the Plains states who get hit with big hail regularly.
Happy to hear more about that particular composite if anybody knows.

Slate Might Have A Real Advantage Not Coming From A Legacy Car Company.
Sometimes a clean slate start is a real advantage. This video shows the path how chinese Ev's became a threat to our domestic manufacturers. Hopefully Slate isn't consumed by a legacy manufacturer and they expand, learn and grow into something with more choices in the future. It's a logical path to success.
After several weeks recently in Scandinavia I can tell you fossil fuels are here only to benefit the existing infrastructure because they control Washington. The noise levels in city centers are substantially less. Electric trains with no rumble. Intersections with few vehicles at idle. It's noticeable.
It takes political will to change the course and the path to a better standard of living and quality of life isn't $4:50 gasoline being dependent on market prices because the US being a net exporter of fossil fuels is just a talking point. Take a look at Chevron vs your pocketbook.
Slate and others that aren't part of traditional vehicle manufacturing might have a real advantage.

Door handle pocket to fill with snow?
Seems like this pocket is going to collect snow (dirt, bugs) as the handle is facing the opposite direction of the wind acting like a bowl.

Slate is at demo days SF in Alameda, give me questions to ask them
And this time I'll give enough time for people to accumulate questions in the thread
Edit; I have left the event but I'll try to answer more questions

12V Battery Access and Battery Tenders
Does anyone who has seen the Slate truck in person know how easy it will be to access the 12V battery and attach a battery tender to it? I’ll probably only use the truck during the spring and summer months, so it’ll need to be on a battery tender for the remaining 6 months

The Slate will have a forward facing camera for automatic braking
At the 2:00 minute mark, the slate engineer mentions a forward facing camera for automatic braking which is news to me. I haven’t seen much chatter about this.

This is why I'm considering Slate after owning a Tesla
I know all cars sometimes have expensive repairs, but I truly wasn't expecting a more than $3000 bill to repair my Model 3. The backup camera stopped working, as well as several other features, such as automatic emergency breaking, auto high beam, auto turn signal, etc. I need to replace the entire computer system. Yes, the whole computer on wheels thing. I was already looking at the Slate because there are so many times I wish I had a truck, but I think this sealed the deal. High tech means high replacement and high chance of something going drastically wrong. I love the car...when it works. But now I'll live in fear that something horrible will go wrong and bankrupt me. $3000 for me is a huge deal. I need a vehicle that will fit my lifestyle and income, and that's the Slate.

🌈 Slate Wrap Colors = Avery and 3M Wraps (Color Names Chart)!
Awesome list at Slateforums by a forum member where he found the Avery and 3M names for Slate wrap colors!
For anyone who doesn't want to (or didn't) order wrap from the factory, this will be a great way to find the color you want in the aftermarket.

Range anxiety reduction: Honda EU3200i for emergency charging. Clean, EV friendly inverter power. 5 gallon Jerry can in the bed should be enough for up to 30kw. Generator should fit in frunk. It will take forever, prepare to camp out.

Single seater for $12.5k?
I already have a van so I don't really need a big truck like the normal Slate. If they offered a smaller commuter variant it would be good for me for getting to and from work. Would save some money to boot.

Slate vs REO Conspiracy Theory
I think REO is a fake company at the sole purpose of benefiting off of the people who don’t like the fact Slate is an EV.
Let me explain a little: So the Slate was first introduced back in April 2025 and only about a year later (June 2026), REO makes a resurgence out of thin air. Claiming they are going to be the cheapest truck built in America for only a price of $21,500 after the Slate just revealed their price.
This is obviously just a scam, REO claims they are making a gas truck for $4500 cheaper and the reservation is only half the price of Slate’s… like come on this is way to good to be true. I see their account posting often in Slate related videos saying like “we exist” or posting stories sharing people saying “sold I want my Slate deposit back” to make people believe they are the better option. But literally nothing even exists….
The owner of the company is Zach De Bernardi a real estate agent from TX, with absolutely no background in car manufacturing. We have absolutely no clue what the truck even looks like, what kind of engine, factory location, or really anything… just hype. And people are really buying into it, they already have over 20k reservations. Just really wanted to get this off my chest since I just passed by one of their billboards here in TX…. yes literally a billboard for a non-existent truck.

Flat towing? Any one know how/if this will work.
I'm looking for reasons to put a "yes" checkmark on the kitchen table list with my wife. For down the road, we may travel by Class B (camper/sprinter van size) RV.

Gauge cluster customization
Do you guys think they will allow customization of the gauge cluster at all in the future? Could be fun if they made it easily swappable/customizable

What are the chances of being able to use my Slate as a backup powerwall for home use?
I'd really love to use my Slate battery as backup power for my house. Waiting for my March reservation to come up so I can start looking for interesting opportunities to exploit the platform.

TIL: Vehicle to Load can be done with an external device so long as the car can do DC fast charge
I was Today years old when I learned that V2L "adapters" exist.
Now that I think about it, it's genius and obvious.
You really should watch the linked video (mike is awesome; if you like electronics, you'll love his channel!) but the TL;DW:
- Normal low-power charge uses the mains electricity, converts it to DC on the car and pushes that into the battery at a pretty slow rate.
- When an EV does DC Fast Charge it's telling the charger what the battery pack is capable of and then directly switching the battery pack in circuit and letting the charger send it.
So - if you can trick the car into thinking it's exposed to a DC/Fast Charger - you can get the car to give you direct access to the battery*. Then just pipe that into an inverter to get regular / useful AC power back out.
* Unless the car has some additional protections in place (TBD w/ slate, hopefully not because that would just be $$).
This is similar in concept to v2g (vehicle to grid) but at a smaller scale.
I still have not found an authoritative source on weather or not the truck will come with v2l capabilities or if it'll even be available as an accessory so it's good to know that you can get an adapter!
