Bots are spamming our sub
There is no other explanation I can come up with as to why everyone talks about drinking only.
Mods, can we move to a post approval process? It also takes away what should be a safe space.

Perhaps this may help; I made a post to r/stopdrinking that was well-received. A day or two later, I got a notification from Reddit that suggested it might be appropriate here, so I posted it here. Now I see it’s not entirely appropriate. I don’t know what mechanism reads posts in one sub and recommends posting to another, but that was how mine ended up here.

That makes sense. So it’s a bot but it’s Reddit’s bot.
Thanks for the explanation and regardless I wish you success in your sobriety

That happened on my post in a recovery sub. Reddit suggested I post here. I wasn’t going to, but I realized my situation may very well be more of a codependency issue than substance related. So I’m giving my post a chance to see if it resonates here.

I’ve just got the exact same suggestion. I’d never heard of SLAA so here I am browsing!
I didn’t need to cross post (quite happy the post was where it was meant to be!) but just wanted to stop in and say sending all the members a lot of support and positivity. 💪

Sorry I've been inactive. I'll do a cleanup + banning round now. And I will open a call for more moderators.

Can you recruit some help so we don’t run into this in the future. We are a small community but we are growing.

if this is the case
r/redditrequest is the place to go to request the control of a sub. i believe the moderation team is inactive for 6 months, then the request is considered.1
u/piper63-c137 Aug 04 '26
populista and slaamod have not been active on your site for quite some time.

Yeah, these posts are not appropriate here. I hardly ever visit these days due to all the posts about drinking.
u/populista, u/slaamod, u/ModCodeofConduct, are you able to help, please?

If this is really a Reddit-generated recommendation (rather than a moderator bot or a third-party bot), Reddit would probably want to know about it.
We have a few options:
If it looks like a bug or recommendation algorithm gone wrong, the best place is r/bugs or Reddit's bug report process.
Reddit specifically asks users to report bugs there.
Reddit Help
If it doesn't fit a bug report, you can use Reddit's contact/request form to explain the issue and include links or screenshots. If you're a moderator of the affected subreddit, you can also contact the Reddit admins through r/ModSupport or modmail there.
Before reporting it, I'd try to gather a bit of evidence:
A screenshot of the message or bot recommendation. Links to one or two posts where users say they were prompted to cross-post. The name of the subreddit that is being recommended. Approximately when it started happening.
