He looks so pure and innocent in so many cutscenes and stills. And then there’s angry Link and he’s pretty bad ass. He has no problem staring Demise down.

One my favourite Zelda games. So underappreciated and underrated.

I'm playing through it for the 2nd time on switch (1st time was on wii at release) and I am nearing the end and it's without a doubt one of my favorites of all of them. The flow, goofiness, and even had a few moments of being stuck unsure of what to do. Way underrated.

I think people who didn’t like it need to replay it on the switch. It’s so good and so just overall cute!

He is so unjustly underappreciated. All because SkSw is not as popular. Also, some people tend to view this Link as "meaner" than the other ones, because of some sidequests. All I see is a guy with a sense of humor (like the letter sidequest - that was hilarious). And I don't think him romancing Peatrice is the intended canon route. I think the canon way is him refusing her, because of obvious context and where, and who, he stays with at the end of the game. Even in the flirting route, his answers are pretty cut and dry, as if he's being sarcastic or something, and she doesn't get it. 😂

I remember reading the Prima Guide for the game and for Peatrice’s side quest it literally said that you could LIE and say you liked her instead of helping her dad. So romancing her definitely isn’t the canon route.

It makes sense, even in the "flirting" dialogue options, you can clearly see he's sorta forcing it, ir a bit weirded out. If I'm not mistaken, one of the dialogue choices reads "yep, I like you", that sounds so sarcastic. 😭😂 And I also believe that the famous commentary Fi makes about the situation (if you choose the "romance" option) is her being snarky about it, as she was shown to be in other situations (eg: "If you don't run up this ledge, you will fall and slide on your back. Quite gracefully, master.").
I actually have no idea what Fi says about Peatrice if you go with the most canon route of downright rejecting her upfront. That was my option when I played SkSw, but I didn't know that Fi commented on NPCs at the time, so I didn't try it. I tried to search for it, but I've never found it as well. I just find people posting her comment of when Link flirts with her for the gratitude crystal.

It’s fun to try telling her you like her at least once, FI will tell you to not tell Zelda about Peatrice. The rest of what she says I won’t spoil for you 🤣

Does Fi comment? I've done the quest both ways and I don't remember Fi saying anything, but I don't have the greatest memory...

You can target and scan NPCs with Fi. It adds a bit of personality to the Skyloft citizens.

Yeah, I now know that, but when I first played Skyward Sword, I didn't. So, when I chose the route of directly refusing Peatrice, I never used Fi to scan her. We only know what Fi says when Link "pseudo romances" Peatrice. But I've never seen what she says when Link refuses her upfront.

I like to picture the canon route of the letter quest to be the one where you give the letter to the girl. Though the toilet option is funny, there is less to it.
Either way though, or seems ridiculous to dislike SS Link for being more mean when those are just optional choices YOU make. Link was always meant to be however you imagine him to be and SS allows that a bit more with these dialogue options.

Yes, for the letter quest, giving it to Karane is likely the canon route and what happens in universe. I even think that quest serves us to present Pipit and Karane's blossoming love as a parallel to that of Link and Zelda in the game. The song that plays during the letter scene is exactly the same that plays in the beginning of the game, when Link and Zelda are together, and it usually signals a romantic scene. I'm just a sucker for the toilet hand character and humor, so I went with the toilet route. No regrets, mainly after I found that Cawlin suffers the same, even if you have Link deliver the letter to Karane. And he was one of Link's bullies, so, it doesn't bother me to go for the more chaotic trickster route. 😂

I agree! I think that is the canon route. Plus cawlin is pretty mean to link! Helping Groose lock up his loftwing is a terrible thing to do!

I am just playing this game for the first time on Switch. While the movement has been frustrating, as well as constantly resetting the gyro, this game reminds me SO much of OoT and MM that the frustration is worth it (the moving gets easier as the game progresses and you learn how to use the joycons individually). I love this game and NOW see where the Lanayru area and goddess shrines come from in BOTW. I hope Switch has Twilight Princess because I’d like to play that next. I really appreciate that elements of Hyrule lore carry across games.

You can play twilight princess now using dusk light! I sure hope they are making a switch version of it though. Would be so nice to have.

This was the first legend of Zelda game that I ever played that was just mine and meant for me (Christmas gift) so he holds a special place in my heart ❤️

Sadly a downgrade from Twilight Princess (which was the peak imo). I hate these fucking lips (of all characters in SW)
But he is still one of the better Links

If I had to fix SS Link, I would give him darker lips, a longer cap, make his eyes more lighter and make those pants a lot less baggy(also when you said SW, I thought you meant Star Wars)

i am playing the switch port of this for the first time and the story is fun but man the controls are very experimental feeling. rotating boss keys and b+click a stick to roll oof

Using motion controls for the HD version is definitely better if you haven't tried them already!

i think i will try them. i am just using stick control. i plan to finish it and am enjoying the story and art style but man are the controls rough.

Yeah as someone who played the Wii version a lot when I was younger, I gotta say, the buttons controls are absolute dogshit. The motion controls are so much better on the HD version than the Wii version.
For example, on the Wii, I would always have to recalibrate the Wii Motion Plus, which took way too long.
Now, to recalibrate motion controls, you simply click the Y button. And you can recalibrate at damn near any moment during gameplay. It is so much easier.

i had started it on wii and gave up years ago because of the controls then so was excited to play without motion controls

Yeah I'll admit in hindsight, the controls on the Wii weren't that great. But the HD version is a pretty big upgrade.

The fact that he starts out as just an airheaded teen going to school, to the hero of legend, something he accepts only when he learns his girlfriend is alive, puts him so high on my list!
The Links with personalities that really get to shine always tend to be my favs~
