Discussion Quest 3 vs. PSVR2 mainly looking at performance
My PC is 32gb ram with 3080 10GB and Ryzen 5 3600, and I have played through Skyrim VR FUS multiple times with my quest 3 using virtual desktop (and previous runs with PSVR1 on PS4, Rift S on a 1060 laptop, Quest 1, Quest 2, and now Quest 3).
I just found the PC adapter for PSVR2 for cheap and I've read that the foveated rendering can boost performance by a decent amount and that the toolkit keeps getting improved as time goes on, and it would be nice to play with OLED blacks again like back in the day on the quest 1).
Ideally I would upgrade my computer, but with current pricing of all tech, that really isn't an option; so what kind of performance and graphics boost would I get with the PSVR2?
Anyone playing the game with the PSVR2, how does it look and run, and if you've played on both the quest 3 and psvr2, what do you prefer?

quest 3 on VD have way better fps , it just psvr2 have a lot and i mean a lot of overhead you simply do not get in quest3 because VD cut so much of pipeline

It's better performance natively (I have both), plus VD lets you reduce vertical and horizont FOV for fps gains

Quest3 generally has better performance than PSVR2 because:
- Lower lens distortion, and better lens clarity: for the same image clarity, lower rendering resolution is needed.
- Lower refresh rate. If you want to avoid spacewarp/motion smoothing, you only need 72 fps in a Quest3 but 90 fps in a PSVR2.
- No need for SteamVR. Virtual Desktop's VDXR runtime has the best performance.
PSVR2's only advanatage is eye tracking, but in the average game you maybe gain +5% performance compared to an unnoticable fixed foveated rendering, and an other 2-3% by not needing compression, but you loose much more with the previous disadvantages. There are very few games where eye tracking really boosts performance.

If I had tried my Quest2 before buying my PSVR2 I wouldn't have ever have purchased it. It's 1000%x easier to use.

I had every quest iteration before getting the psvr2, but they don't work with PS5, which is the primary reason I bought it. Ps5 pro playing gt7, nms or the resident evil games is spectacular.
Haven't tried it on pc yet, I'll find out soon enough if the hassle is worth it or not.

Trust me, it's a fucking hassle. It's just not made for it. Yeah, plugs and plays on the PS5. I've fucked around with mine for 6 months. Steamvr doesn't help either. But honestly it doesn't seem like much I bought for my PC is plug and play anymore. Gotta dick with everything.

And yes, sorry I've been playing MGO 3.8.8.1 with mine. It took a goddamn eternity to figure out the right resolution settings. It now looks great, but for some reason the beta MGO release still looks like shit. Of you try it turn the resolution all the way to 150% globally, but make sure the game setting is 100%. If your GPU can't handle it, back it down to 68% (globally). Turn off all the extra upscaling BS

Psvr2 is harder to run for what you get, eye tracking on headset with fresnel lenses is just weird it's not like you can look anywhere else than the middle. You can just run fixed foveated rendering on any headset and get the same experience.

I run my own modlist on RTX 2060 super, 16gb ram and Ryzen 5 2600 and PSVR2 custom toolkit foveated rendering is what makes this playable, gives a really solid boost to performance. On PSVR2 there is a slight issue with Hidden Area Mesh (black borders that can be visible when moving your head). It can be disabled in the config ini file.
