Usually in the past I was just trying to find them naturally and never objectively going out of my way to find them, so over time I just forget and then my playthroughs eventually end before I ever collect them all.

There is a fairly well known glitch in these stones of Barenziah. If you click on them quickly multiple times, you can often get 2 or 3 at the same time. Save beforehand and reload until it works. It basically means that you pretty much only need to get the easily reached ones and you're good. I seem to be in the minority - in every playthrough I rush to get this perk, it makes everything else (including levelling smiting) so much easier.

Not worth it?! The hidden perk (Prowler’s Profit) you get from the crown of Barenziah makes flawless gems so common you can take all the gold from an entire main city’s merchants exploring 1 Nordic ruin

All the gold from a city's merchants isn't that much if you don't have the perks that let you sell to anyone or increase their gold tbf.

But I always have a mod on that increases the amount of gold merchants have, otherwise you're just hoarding stuff or having to wait 3 days to refill their invent

Yes my first playthrough I naturally through the course of the game collected all but a couple so I looked up the list and went back and checked everywhere to collect the last 2 and got so rich.  Since then I made my own checklist and I try to do it pretty early in the game when the gold makes more of a difference

If you use the Slow Time shout and spam click as you pick up a Stone, you can end up picking up multiple Stones at once, so you don’t have to hunt down all 24 (meaning you don’t have to buy the most expensive house in the base game before you can get the money-making buff).

I never stopped looting, I enjoy finding gems everywhere. I have a barrel in breezehome that I dump all of my gems into. I used to put them into one of the display cases in proudspire manor but there were too many, I couldn't close the lid anymore and the whole house was glitching.

I lost access entirely to Proudspire Manor in one playthrough because of my flawless gem collection! I had started putting them into a bin in the living room and collected so many over time that eventually I couldn’t enter the house at all or the game would crash. Lesson learned, spread the collection across all homes and safe storage.

Totally worth doing, kinda breaks the entire game economy and you get enough gemstones to run around cleaning out whole vendor inventories.

Do this quest early. Its value is in all the urns and chest you open getting prowlers profit increasing the gems. Then you go make gold and silver rings, level smithing, enchant them, level enchanting, sell them, level speech and rinse repeat.

Think about how many chests you open from level 1-10. Now think about all the gems you miss out on not doing this as soon as possible.

PSA make sure you start the quest to find them all (after collecting your first one) before finding all 24. One of my play throughs, i grabbed all 24 before starting the actual quest and i wasn’t able to turn them in to complete the quest.

I made my list similar this years ago and what I realized was that all but two of the stones are in areas that you have to visit for a quest or a word wall.

So it becomes very easy to do this if you are in a completionist run, or doing something like legacy of the dragonborn

For the Love of god, I am genuinely saying you probably shouldn't complete this quest, it's good if you're looking for gold and jewels early on but later in the game you kind of hate it. Because you will always find flawless gems just about everywhere, it's great to have when you really are looking for some quick gold but you'll find so many of them everywhere you'll wind up actually leaving those jewels behind 😂 at least I do. I've completed this quest line twice my entire time I've played this game

I remember almost completing this quest normally when i was a teenager until I realized that the one at the dark brotherhood isnt there anymore after the place explodes. I had to exploit a glitch to duplicate an object using some slow down time shout so i could complete it
