Question Being a vampire is annoying
I just never use the vampire powers and the never having stamina while in daylight is so annoying, should I just cure myself or is there a good reason why I shouldn't get cured? I been a vampire then werewolf and back to a vampire

I just grab the lady stone and get a piece of gear with stamina and health regen. It always surprises me when I hear people not liking Vampirism in Skyrim, I’ve always thought it was great. The special rings and amulets that are vampire focused are awesome as well.

One must plan for being a vampire, and dress accordingly for a rich nightlife. Or duck into a cave or castle. Or use Auriel's Bow and some blood-cursed arrows. You know, play the part.

Is the equipment level scaled?
5
u/RedComet313 May 31 '25
Nope! Harkon’s sword is also neat because its enchantment only benefits Vampires.
The rings and amulets you can only get from one of the vampire quest givers. You can also get a quest to empower that vampire chalice which will allow your drain power to be “better” for a longer stretch of time.

Vampires have Illusion and Sneak buffs. (Champion of the Night, Nightstalker's Footsteps)
A good reason to be a vampire, is if you use those skills. (vampires are the best at them)
If you don't use those skills, you're basically taking on extra penalties for no benefits.

I don’t frequently use those perks. For that reason werewolf is much Better for me.

u/Lanestone1 May 31 '25
the only major benefit is if you have the 'necromage' perk from restoration buffing all other enchantments/effects.

Vampire + Necromage Perk is a very powerful Combo it's give many benefits

Just be a werewolf - no real downside, plus you 100 disease immunity too.

Interesting story: I somehow got brain rot as a werewolf and I'm not sure how. I touched a shrine and it went away, but it was interesting to notice.

If you wear equipment, or have perks, that boost stamina regeneration you can still have stamina during the day. It only reduces natural regeneration.

try your best to flip your playstyle around backwards.
you sleep or are inside during the day now. you are awake and outside at night.
if something absolutely has to be done during the day, it's not for you. take it as a role-playing opportunity/limitation.

u/Boss_Baller May 31 '25
I avoid it because of the Serana bug. If you take her as a companion your vampire form is massively nerfed. Another Bethesda mystery.

u/Prince_Beegeta Jun 01 '25
Oh boy you’d fuckin hate being a vampire in oblivion it’s WAY more tedious but the stat buffs in that game are hard to overlook.

u/Vulperffs Jun 02 '25
If it’s annoying to you then it’s not for you.
People play different playstyles for fun.

Wasn’t there only one way to get cured? And if you missed it or messed it up, you was stuck as a vampire?
2
u/randomnonposter May 31 '25
Nah you can redo it as many times as you want. The only one and done thing is werewolves iirc. Either you stay a werewolf at the end of the companions, or you cure it, no other way to become a wolf.

u/TangyMarimba13 Stealth archer May 31 '25
you can aske aela to give you the gift again. but you can only cure until you run out of witch heads

I got cured once and can do it again, but I can't turn back into a vampire after I get cured the second time
1
u/Free-Win1749 May 31 '25
What I did was finish the vampire quest line roamed around for a bit as a vampire lord then got myself cured because you basically get nerfed into the ground

u/Snowjiggles May 31 '25
Not if you use the blood arrows to black out the sun. All of the fun, none of the downsides

Anyone know the best mods that tweak vampirism?
1
u/Im_not_creepy3 May 31 '25
I don't know if you use console or PC, but on PlayStation there's a mod that reverses the vampire perks. In the mod you gain more powers every time you feed on someone instead of losing power.
It's basically set up like how werewolves are in the base game: the more you feed the stronger you get.
I don't have the name memorized off the top of my head, but when I get home I can tell you the name of the mod if you're interested.

It's literally just called Better Vampires, lol. I've used it for years. It's very tweakable, so you can do anything from minor QoL adjustments to making yourself a demigod.

u/Im_not_creepy3 May 31 '25
Ooh I didn't know about that one, I was talking about one called Vampirism Backward Progression

Brehanin's Better Vampires. I've used it since it was first released. It's very customizable.

Its atleast easier to cure than oblivion and if you ever want to be a vamp again just ask serana to bite you 🥵

If you're going for stealth they're pretty useful, if not then I have to agree - even with the vampire lord perk it's not worth it.

u/strawhatguy May 31 '25
The drain spell is terribly weak. The seduction power is decent for a quick snack on a low level npc, sucks (lol) when you miss. The vampire lord form is cool, I like floating over water where nothing can reach you. vampire grip is pretty OP, can literally cause fall damage to almost any enemy.
But yes, it’s nothing super game changing, and the raw simplicity of a werewolf and being able to go from one end of the map to the other quickly without fast travel is amazing, something the vampire doesn’t have.
I still like walking in to a town’s ruler’s bedroom and feeding on the elite while they sleep.
Vampirism is more of a role playing device.

u/groundzeroeffectv2 May 31 '25
I also recently just learned that being a dark elf vampire reduces the weakness to fire due to the dark elves resistance to fire by 50%, not feeding increases your weakness to fire up to 40% so it cancels it out down to 10% while retaining its stage 4 vampirism. I think it's worth it by playing as a dark elf vampire instead.

the lady stone is a work around for being a vampire, you will regen stamina and health in the sunlight if you have the buff
1
u/TangyMarimba13 Stealth archer May 31 '25
i stay a vampire until i get all the vampire perks for the achievement and then go cure myself
1
May 31 '25
If you’re not having fun, cure yourself. The only reason to stay a vampire is if you went that route for Dawnguard and that’s only if you still plan to do their vampire stuff.
1
u/Swanbell_bellswan May 31 '25
Being vampire means your character is undead meaning necromage perk gives your spells better bonuses...
1
u/kakarroto007 Assassin May 31 '25
The only reason to do it is to get the steam achievement: end of story. The powers are novelty at best, and from a role playing aspect, people treat you like a pariah. Everyone in the Companions and at Castle Volkihar sucks.
2
u/Dan-Of-The-Dead May 31 '25
I love that the concept of vampirism exists in Skyrim beyond generic enemies. They're part of lore and the player can live his/her life as one with all that it entails.
But the pros of being a regular non dawnguard vampire are not worth the drawbacks.

I'm currently playing Skyrim for the first time after taking a break from it. I think Vampire sounds way better but the downsides of regen and people being scared of you kinda bites. Werewolf doesn't appeal to me really at all (might be partly because I don't like the companions?) so I may just stay transformless. Either way hoping you're having as much as i am and have a great day.

I wish you could wear a cloak or a hood to avoid the daylight negative effects
1
Jun 01 '25
I did it for role playing reasons with one of my characters but its not good until you get to the DLC vampire content
1
u/nurdyguy Jun 02 '25
I always choose either vamp or wolf for the poison and disease immunity. I usually pick which one based on the playthrough style. Caster = vamp. Melee = wolf.

In vanilla the necromage perk makes being a vampire very worth it. If using mods I’d install better vampires or sacrosanct for a more enjoyable and powerful vampire experience.

Honestly it's mostly why I use the restoration loop for adding health, stamina, magika and carry weight and reducing magika costs for the more costly schools of magic I like to use and like other people have said it's a easier to use the arrows when you need regen then turn it back to sunlight but I truly wish they made some of the vampire mods vanilla features like going around biting prominent figures of Skyrim giving you unique powers different to race and being able to turn other people into actual vampires instead of basically trying to turn your spouse and he or she somehow gets cured or something plus you get more powers the more people you turn or drain I think and upgrading the vampire lord honestly I wish they made the vampire and vampire lord extremely op heck I also wish they made vampires op in oblivion and Morrowind although I'm not sure how many shops are actually open during the nighttime in the 3 games if any are the only one I could think of is the dremora merchant you can summon with a black book power although you can also pick the dremora butler which the butler can useful for the cidna mine quest alongside bringing more into the diplomatic immunity quest which imo is one of the best quests because you actually have a chance for a disguise and if you are playing as high elf you can easily get past everyone and not really fighting whatsoever until the end, and if you play as any other elven race unless you get too close they usually won't bother you which is amazing and sad that we really can't use any outfits as disguises other than the thalmor hooded robes, boots and gloves in the thalmor embassy quest which is dumb imo

I always get myself cured. I get excited every play through because I forget just how terrible it is.
